BareMinerals is one of the pioneers when it comes to makeup brands with the wide range of foundation shades. Besides, the brand is also known for its mineral ingredients that are really good for your skin.
After their successful release of 60 shades of nude lip colors in 4 finishes (as always, with a range of complexions in mind), BareMinerals decided to take their skin-tone matching expertise to the next level, releasing a complete eye collection for four types of complexions.
I’m lucky to receive some of the products from the GEN NUDE eye collection and I’m really happy to share my review on these goodies. The Gen Nude Collection includes eye shadow palettes, mascaras, brushes, eye pencils and creamy eyeshadow + primer. In this post, I’ll share my review about the new eyeshadow palettes and will keep the rest for the upcoming posts.
NEW GEN NUDE®
EYESHADOW PALETTES
This collection consists of 4 different neutral eyeshadow palettes for every skin tone. Each palettes is designed with a specific complexion type in mind, which makes the idea of finding the right color palette for your skin tone much easier. Meanwhile, you can always mix and match shades from different palettes as well, but if you are unsure, you already have the guide for it:
Rose GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for fair to light skin tones.
Neutral GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for light to medium skin tones.
Copper GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for medium to tan skin tones.
Latte GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for dark to deep skin tones.
If you look at each palettes, you can see that each of them consists of six shades presented in metallic, satin and matte finishes. The eyeshadows are also infused with anti-age formula, particularly cucumber extract (soothes and depuffs), moisturizing borage oil (to soften), and antioxidant-rich algae (to protect the skin).
In each column of the palettes if you look from top lightest shade to top darkest you’ll see a guide for a complete eye look! This will be really helpful for beginners or people who are not so make-up savvy. Moreover, each palettes includes a booklet with step-by-step guides for three different looks.

I have received Rose and Latte eyeshadow palettes.

First Impression
I’ve swatched these eyeshadows when they just got released at Sephora and before I received them for review. I was really surprised by how packed the pigment is! You don’t really need a lot to get a shadow out of the palettes. Just a slight touch and the color is already of your fingers or your brush.

This kind of pigment is possible due to the cold-press technology, that also saves all the nutrition. According to bareMinerals, this collection is the creamiest eyeshadows they have ever created. And indeed, they feel like butter. However, if you take too much on your brush don’t forget to tap it off – the pressed pigment especially of metallic shades can cause fallouts under your eyes.
Color and Formula
ROSE PALETTE
It a little tricky for me to describe the eyeshadows in Rose palette. Some people felt really misled because of the wrong shade interpretation at Sephora’s website where the colors are obviously more pinkish than in real life. To my eyes, the Rose palette is more about muted rose shades with ashy undertones.

Interestingly, but eyeshadows in the left column has slightly warmer shades compared to the right column.

To describe the palette more precisely, I’d say that the Rose palette resembles me of Urban Decay Naked3 palette. Here is a quick comparison of shades:

When swatched, both Naked3 and Rose palettes have a similar color pay off.
When applied to the eyelid, they indeed feel smooth and the softness on my skin remained even after I took the makeup off. The pigment is rather soft and blendable which is good from one point of view since it’s so hard to ruin your eye look with these eyeshadows. For better color payoff you would need to use an eye primer underneath or wet the brush with the setting spray.

The pigment in satin finishes seems less intense compared to mattes and metallics.
For my light-to-medium complexion with brown eyes, the Rose palette gives more as a smokey eyes kind of look with a hint of graphite undertone. It’s more on the cooler side than on a warm side, however, the shades are still within the neutrals which makes them still workable for me. Again, even with the darker shades, it is so hard to overdo your eyes, which is especially good when you’re preparing for work in early mornings. The eyeshadows are very blendable and you can actually build up a pigment for a nighttime look.

I used a primer underneath for better color pay off
LATTE PALETTE
Latte palette has more golden-amber shades with overall warm undertones.

The left column has more yellow undertones, while the column on the right has cooler undertones.

The shade selection reminds me of Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette.

When compared, matte eyeshadows of Soft Glam palette seem slightly more pigmented, however the difference is barely noticeable. The rest of the eyeshadows are similar in color and pigment payoff.
Interestingly, bareMinerals highlighted that the shades in Latte have greater depth of pigment in order to match darker skin tones. This is explained by having 4 metallic shades out of 6 in a pan.
Same as with the Rose palette, when applied to the skin the eyeshadows from Latte palette are soft and blendable, keeping your look in a neutral range. The color selection of the Latte palette gives my skin more of a sun-kissed look, especially when I place the golden foil shade in the middle of my upper lid.

Since the eyeshadows are soft, I like that I’m not getting a crazy amount of glittery pigment on your lids. This kind of metallic eyeshadows will also look good on mature skin. At the same time, you can use fingers instead or spray a brush with a setting spray to get the most from the pigment.
Ingredients:
In general, the ingredient list stays true to bareMinerals, except for the added dyes which according to some reviews, can cause irritation to people with extremely sensitive eyes. Nevertheless, the eyeshadows are ophthalmologist tested and safe for contact lenses. I didn’t get any kind of irritation after trying these eyeshadows.

The eyeshadows are paraben-free, phthalate-free, talc-free, gluten-free and fragrance-free. Here is the complete list of ingredients for both palettes.

Packaging
Each eyeshadow palette comes in a beautiful plastic package with marble design on top and the full-size mirror that can be fixed in the desired position. The size of the palette fits into the palm, which makes it less bulky to store and more travel-friendly. The total net weight of eyeshadows is around 6.6 gr/0.18 oz.

In some of the reviews, I’ve found out that people are struggling with opening the package. It was a little hard to open first too, but here is the trick how to do it fast and without ruining your manicure or using a knife.

Use your thumb to press the right side of the palette away from yourself while using the thumb on another hand (not your nail!) to lift the lid.
From another point of view, such latch protects the eyeshadows during transportation.
Bottom Line
Both of the palettes work really well with my complexion even though Rose palette is designed for fair to light skin tone, while Latte is initially for dark to deep skin tones. This highlights the fact, that you can choose whatever color palette you like most and since all of the shades fall under a range of neutral shades, they will still suit you. The palette is quite small and the selection of neutral shades makes it indeed travel-friendly.
I especially like that the eyeshadows are formulated with anti-aging elements and how my skin feels moisturized after using them. Since they are so soft and blendable they are really good for days when I’m running late (which happens quite often, my husband can tell!) but still will give enough definition for my eyes.
According to bareMinerals guide, my perfect palette would be Neutral since my complexion is light-to-medium. However, I really love the shades that I’ve received – no surprise I had Naked 3 and Soft Glam in my collection!
With this in mind, I’m having quite a hard time picking between Rose and Latte – one can help me create nice smokey eyes or add a bit of definition to my eyes while the other can spice up my brown eyes and the highlights in my hair.
The eyeshadows are available at bareMinerals.com, Sephora, Nordstrom and Ulta for $29.
