The relationship with some beauty products may not always be a love from the first sight. Sometimes, you really need to understand the formula and find the right way of using the product before you can make your judgmental decision.
I test a lot of products on myself, and honestly, “it’s not always rainbows and butterflies“. I usually get rid of the products I don’t like right away. However, after starting this blog, I’ve become more open-minded, especially after learning about the basket/pan projects and accepting its philosophy – understanding the product and its formula as you use the product continuously till you hit the pan. Moreover, fair return policies in my favorite stores are very supportive in discovering the products more thoroughly. With this in mind, it makes more sense to try the “failed” products again, and to my surprise and excitement, some of them are really worth giving a second and even a third chance. Here are my four recent discoveries.
‘The Original’ MakeUp Eraser
I got a sample of the MakeUp Eraser in my first Allure beauty box, and as you might have understood already, I didn’t like it. I was surprised to find it was really soft, but I didn’t see myself replacing my two-step cleaning routine with a piece of wet towel. Moreover, I found it harder to clean eye-makeup and it me took longer to finish the cleansing. After trying the MakeUp Eraser for a couple of days, it went back to a plastic it came with and was left in my drawer for a while.
A week ago, I decided to give this product a second chance and to my excitement, it came in handy removing the residues of eye makeup without putting cleansers into my eyes.
The life-changing tip about this cloth is that you need to use a warm water and continuously make it wet since it dries much faster than you think. Moreover, you should start with the “short-haired” side as it is designed to remove waterproof makeup. Yes, both of the sides are different and should be used for different purposes!
The MakeUp Eraser indeed cleanses your face without any product. It is super travel-friendly, easy to wash and will last you for up to 5 years.
I’m definitely not dumping all my cleansers, but I’m going to use it more frequently than I thought I would.
By the way, you can get a sample of this one for free ( along with other 14 different samples) when you shop at Nordstrom! Check this link for more details.
Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara
I got this mascara the same week it was released and when I tried it for the first time, I remember texting my friend saying how terrible this mascara was. I had a sample size, so it kept sitting in my makeup bag for a while. A couple of months later, I decided to try the mascara one more time before I can toss it, and it felt and looked completely different.
What has changed in my understanding, is that in the beginning the formula was too fresh and once it dried out a little in the tube it became as it was supposed to be. It really lengthens, curls your lashes and this curl stays for the whole day! I especially like how black this mascara is and now it’s one of my favorite products.
Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment
I tried the avocado eye cream in a sample for the first time, and I didn’t like the thickness of the product. Moreover, with any eye cream, I expect the product to help me in getting rid of my dark circles. Unfortunately, this product is not designed to brighten up the under-eye area, and therefore, I didn’t consider it as a right product for me.
Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, $29–$48 (Buy Now)
I was looking for an eye cream I can use under concealer and after seeing tons of positive reviews, I decided to give this product a second chance. And I’m so glad I did because it is much creamier and smoother than it was in that sample – it probably dried out there before I even had a chance to experience the real formula.
I’ve also posted about this product in a separate review. You may want to check it out here.
Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque
I got this mask in a set with other masks from Kiehl’s during the winter sales. The set of 5 different masks was a perfect deal to try different products for a decent price.
Kiehl’s ‘Rare Earth’ Deep Pore Cleansing Masque, $33 (Buy Now)
I’ve heard different opinions about the pore cleansing mask from praises to allergy reactions and breakouts. When I tried this one for the first time, I didn’t notice any difference in my pores and I was a little disappointed. As well as the other products, it kept sitting in my drawer until I decided to give this mask a second try to be loved. After trying it for the second time, I’ve realized that it really worked and now I use it regularly. It indeed cleanses my pores within 10 minutes without causing irritation to my sensitive skin.
What I think I didn’t do right the first time is probably the timing. Because I wasn’t sure about the reaction it can cause, I probably kept it for less than 10 minutes.
These are my recent re-disroveries. For sure, it’s not always the case with the products that I didn’t like from the first application. There isn’t a guarantee that all of the so-called “failed” products will actually perform better with use. However, as long as there is no serious irritation from the product, I’m willing to give it another chance.
What is the one product that you’ve changed your negative opinion about after trying it for a while? Let me know in the comments down below!
P.S. You can support my blog by using the links in this post to purchase these products!

With fluctuating airline ticket prices and extra-fees for the luggage, my main problem with packing for travel is usually answering the following question: What from my vanity cabinet will make it to the destination?
After paying $100 for over-weight baggage, obviously because of the heavy makeup bag, I’m trying to be realistic on skincare and makeup products that I would definitely need and use during the trip.
The decision-making process can be hard. As a frequent flyer, I can definitely tell that the content of your makeup bag can dramatically change depending on the type of travel, days of travel and the destination.
To save you some time and bucks, I decided to share top picks based on my experience on each and every destination that I’ve travelled. I’ll start with one of my favorite places on earth: Miami.
Miami is one of our favorite vacation destinations, my husband even considers this place as “our second home”. This sunny relaxing city is so inviting, that it’s almost our first choice when we are planning our next vacation. Because you can sunbathe, relax and party – and do it all in one place, your makeup bag should definitely represent all these activities.
Since now I’m so much smarter about the sunscreens – and hope, you are too after my extensive research on this type of sun protection – I’d recommend using COOLA® Suncare Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick SPF 50. You won’t have problems with TSA to take it onboard because it’s a stick. You can also opt for a tinted one since it won’t leave white residue on your skin, which means you can use it away from the beach.
COOLA® Suncare Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick SPF 50, (26$, Buy Now)
Don’t forget to reapply it every 80 minutes and follow the instructions of the package. Make sure you apply enough product – 1 shot glass for the body, as we know now is the right amount, since under-application substantially decreases the SPF factor.
And remember, that the best sun protection is still seeking shade and covering your body with clothing during the peak hours!
You face is what represents you, so make sure you don’t forget about it as well. To make your life easier, take the Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 from Drunk Elephant. Because it is tinted, You can use it while you’re at the beach and afterwards if you wish to wander in the streets during the day. It won’t make you look white and the glow that it adds to your skin will look perfect on pictures!
As well as with the body sunscreen, you need to reapply this sunscreen every 2 hours and use a dollop amount of the product for the optimal protection.
Skip on mists, sprays, powders especially for your face, even if you’re being told in the store that they are mineral and safe for your skin, which they are. However, they are not safe for inhalation as they can damage the lungs.
NEW All Good SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen Lotion, Water Resistant, 3 oz, ($15.19, Buy Now)
For babies, FDA recommends to stay away from any type of sunscreens so make sure your babies are in the shade or you use clothing as the protection from sun exposure.
Whether you love tanning, or you try to avoid the sun, the aftersun lotion is a must in your body care routine. My favorite one is from Korres because it is made with natural greek yogurt – a milk product used for centuries to cool the skin after the sun exposure.
KORRES After Sun Greek Yoghurt Cooling Gel for Face and Body, ($26.00, Buy Now)
By the way, you can also apply it to your face! For a more cooling effect, put it in a fridge or an ice bucket!
If you’re travelling only with the hand luggage, you would probably need to put this cream into the travel container. Check with your airline for allowed sizes for liquid on board.
Your skin will be dehydrated by the sun and the ocean, so you need to replenish it with the most effective moisturizers. I’ve tried lots of different products and here is my short list:
These are another products that I’ve also tried and shared in my highlights. The best part of this kit is that you get three amazing products – an essence, a lotion and a facial cream – for quite a decent price ( compared to full-size prices and the kit’s value of $155) and they are in a perfect size for travel. Check with your airlines though, if they let you take 2.5 oz of the essence onboard before you leave the house!
Moisturizing Eye Cream
Since your relaxation and time that you spend outdoors during the vacation will probably contribute to a good sleep and less visible dark circles, skip on heavy eye creams and use the moisturizing one instead. My personal favorite is Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado from Kiehl’s. You can find the detailed review of this cream is in this blog post.
Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($29.00, Buy Now)
I’ve always used to be less caring about hair when I travel, however things changed. Still, if I can skip on my favorite Living Proof shampoo that I’ve written about earlier in this blog, there is nothing else found in the hotel room that can help me with the dry split ends. Moreover, since they are getting worse because of the environmental exposure, I no longer can be that neglecting. Luckily, I’ve discovered L’Oreal Ever Pure Hair Sheet Mask that I’ve written about in my previous post. It is easy to pack and you’ll get the result instantaneously.
Tying your hair in the braids is a good idea to get effortless beachy waves. I’m always taking my Invisibobble hair ties with me. It is so much easier to wash them and bring them back in shape after using – just scroll on my highlights on my instagram!
Invisibobble Original Hair Tie – Crystal Clear, pack of 3, ($8.00, Buy Now)
Charlotte Tilburi Color Chameleon Color Morphing Eyeshadow Pencil, ($27, Buy Now)
If you don’t like eyeshadows in cream, you can use this small travel pallet from Smashbox. Use your fingers to get more pigment out of the product and soften the edges of your eyeshadows with a fluffy clean brush.
I was very skeptical about Benefit’s latest BADgal BANG! mascara and I didn’t like it at all when I tried it for the first time. Believe me or not, I like it a lot right now. I don’t know what has changed, but now it’s among my favorite products! And it is quite resistant to humidity so you definitely want to take it with you to Miami!
I suggest to skip on foundation and let your skin shine! For more confidence, you can use a concealer to hide small imperfections.
If you are looking for the concealer that will give you enough confidence with your “bare” skin, try the Benefit’s Boi-ing Airbrush concealer. It will give enough coverage and will look natural on your skin. My shade is 02.
There is no sun-kissed blush look without a bronzer or a blush! To save more space I’d recommend Terracotta Light Powder from Guerlain. It has some blush pigment alongside to the natural bronzer shades, resulting in the most subtle refreshing luminous bronzer you can get.
Alternatively, or in addition to this, you can also consider Tom Ford’s Shade & Illuminate Glow Stick in Sunstruck with a rose-gold highlighter on one end and a coral blush on the other.
Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate Glow Stick ($55.00, Buy Now)
While it is so hard to pick just one highlighter, I’ve just discovered one from Hourglass in shade Champagne Flash and I’m absolutely in love with it! It gives such a natural subtle glow, that you can wear during the day and night. You can use it on high points of your cheekbones, nose, corner of your eyes and on your cupid’s bow – wherever you feel the necessity to add more luminosity to your beautiful skin.
Miami is a hot place, so if you want to keep your favorite Tom Ford lipstick in shape, my best advice is to skip on it. Instead, try liquid lipsticks or lip glosses. My favorite liquid lipstick is Powermatte Lip Pigment from Nars. I’ve already got one in American Woman, and I’m planning to get a red and coral-pinkish one.
Micellar water is one of the best inventions in beauty. If you like Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water, you’ll appreciate these wipes for sensitive skin. There are no TSA restrictions on wipes, so feel free to take it onboard.
Since most of the mentioned products can be applied with fingers, you would need only a brush for bronzer and a couple for eyeshadows.
Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc is the perfect perfume for Miami. If you want something more affordable and less bulky, 10 ml eau de toilette of MAISON MARGIELA ’REPLICA’ Beach Walkis the best option for you. it has a similar to Soleil Blanc notes, in particular Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Coconut and Benzoin. This size is also acceptable by TSA.

Allure Beauty Box is a monthly subscription from Allure Magazine. It contains deluxe and full-size beauty products from both high-end and drugstore brands.
The best part about these subscription boxes is that they are curated by the leading Beauty Magazine and you are actually getting products that have been already tested by the staff and approved by them. This means, you are more likely to love 90% of the content and you won’t get disappointed.
You don’t need to be subscribed to the magazine, to get a subscription for the boxes. Signing up is easy, plus right now you can get your first box with a $5 discount! You’ll get your box the same month you have subscribed. If you start on May 31st, you’ll get first your May box, followed by June box back to back.
The price for subscription is $15 per box + tax, however, you can also save with yearly subscription, which is $150 +tax. Shipping is free.
The content of each box usually has a value way higher than $15. Let see what’s inside the May 2018 Box.
According to deputy beauty director Elizabeth Siegel, this box is filled with “instant-gratification products” that yield the result instantly and really make the difference when you need to get it very fast.
The box contains 4 deluxe products and 1 full-size product + 1 Beauty Bonus – 6 products in total!
You also get a booklet with the description on each of the products and promo codes.
These eye patches are just gorgeous from the outside and within. Each of the patches has 3 layers including the top gold foil layer that actually has the benefits of retaining hydration and preventing it from evaporation. The main active ingredients are hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf extract and lavender oil. Together, they bring hydration, soothe and calm the skin, while brighten and reduce the appearance of dark circles. I’m very surprised with the ingredient list since it’s free of harsh chemicals and the patches really work! The essence is fast absorbing and doesn’t feel sticky.
I’m not a fan of hair sprays because they tend to dry out the hair. Thankfully, there are now nourishing sprays like the one from Kenra that can also manage frizzy hair. Moreover, it is infused with natural oils and you are getting your hair in place without making them look dull.
Unfortunately, I can’t try this right now since I’m having a laser treatment this week, but it is a product I’ve never heard about. This is a transparent self-tan mousse that gives an instant glow to your skin with one application and without the need of rinsing it off. You won’t get a dark tan though and you need to apply it evenly since it’s clear, but it won’t stain and works instantaneously.
My first impression is its amazing natural coastal smell – just like I’m drinking fresh coconut water by the ocean. It makes the skin indeed smooth and creates the base for the makeup. It won’t make you feel greasy or oily, so I think it is best for people with oily to normal skin. And it adds such a nice natural glow to your skin!
Since First Aid Beauty is famous for its good ingredient list, the product is allergy-tested and is safe for sensitive skin.
What I especially love about the subscription boxes, is that sometimes you get products in formulas you’d never think of. Have you ever tried a lip powder? Well, this is the first time for me. While you need to be careful with its loose content ( and its ability to stain!) the powder instantly turns into smooth creamy lipstick when in contact with your skin. It is absolutely lightweight, extremely pigmented and somehow doesn’t get into lip lines. By the way, Cle Cosmetics, the K-beauty brand, was the first one to introduce lip powders to the world.
I especially like the shade that I’ve received – Desert Rose – I think it is that type of shade that works with any complexion and hair color. This K-beauty lip powder came in a full size and can be used for cheeks as well! Make sure you just don’t inhale it.
In this box, you’ll either get a deluxe size of L’oreal Elnette Satin Hairspray, or L’oreal Ever Pure Intense Repair Hair Sheet Mask.
I received a full-size sheet of the hair mask. This is a truly instantly working sheet mask for hair! It smells really good and you are getting silky and shiny hair in only 5 minutes! It takes a little more time to wash it off, but it is definitely worth it. By the way, it is sulphates-, parabens- and colorants- free! It comes as a foil cap and the mask itself is activated by the shower steam. I definitely need a lifetime supply of this sheet mask.
From the moment I’ve started this blog, I’ve realized that the beauty industry goes along with the fashion industry at the fastest possible pace and sometimes it is so hard to follow the trend. Thanks to the social media, now we can easily stay in the know.
Here is our short-list of newly announced products we are thrilled about to try this month.
1. ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Dream Glow Kit
Another addition to the Glow Kit Collection. The Dream Glow Kit consists of 6 pastel highlighters. The configuration of the pallet resembles the iconic limited-edition Nicole Glow Kit, while the shade selection slightly reminds us of Aurora Glow Kit.
Most of the shades are iridescent which makes them even more wearable than they seem to look in the pan. We are especially excited about he Magic shade that has at least three colors in the reflect – lilac, yellow gold and turquoise.
This is the redesigned edition of the original Rose Gold Palette that was launched back in 2016. The Remastered pallet is claimed to have a completely new formula. According to the swatches, they are super pigmented and smooth. It also features a large mirror.
The launch is expected on May 22nd at Huda Beauty official website as well as at Sephora online and in stores on July 20th.
3. PUMA x MAC COSMETICS Collaboration
Not necessarily the beauty launch, but we are so obsessed with the idea of matching your favorite lipstick shade to your shoes! The collaboration of the makeup brand and the sport brand led to the creation of Special Edition Suede sneakers. They were exclusively released in honor of PUMA Suede’s 50th anniversary.
Inspired by the upcoming Royal Wedding, Becca has added a new highlighter to its iconic highlighters collection. The center of the Royal Glow pressed powder is stamped with a crown which makes it stand out from the other highlighters in the collection.
This limited-edition bronzed opal shade is infused with shimmering gold pearl which makes it a perfect match for any complexion.
I’m very picky when it comes to eye creams. My main concern with this part of my face is the dark circles, and since I started my blog, my second concern has become hydration. Hydration is very important for such a delicate area. The makeup that you use can easily irritate and dehydrate the skin under your eyes, contributing to even darker circles and deeper fine lines.
This eye cream is packed with vitamins and ingredients that are so good for your skin. Starting with the main ingredient, Avocado Oil that is the source of amino acid proteins, Vitamins A, D, E and Potassium. Besides, it also contains beta-Carotene – a naturally-derived antioxidant that is used in Vitamin A production and Shea butter, known for its skin beneficial properties such as maintaining hydration and improving skin appearance.
Because of the avocado oil extract, this cream is very rich and moisturizing. The best part of it – it absorbs very fast and it is ophthalmologist- and dermatologist-tested. And it is very lightweight.
As the cream absorbs pretty fast, it doesn’t migrate to your eyes and creates a perfectly smooth base for the eye makeup. The cream is now a part of my morning routine and I always apply it before concealers.
The texture of the cream is very thick, but it melts when you start to dab the product under your eye. For an even smoother application, it is recommended to warm up the product between your fingers before applying it to your face. It even changes the color from green to translucent when being warmed up by your skin and simply sinks under your skin.
Hydration smoothes the fine lines and for a second I had a feeling that it also works with my dark circles. The result may be not that prominent as after eye creams from La Mer or Onsen, however, it supports that fact that hydration is the key to keeping your skin youthful and beautiful.
What is your favorite eye cream? Let me know in the comments down below!
This is a post about a disappointment in purchase and in experience, but it was not meant to be like this from the beginning! All I can say, beauty is not always flowers and butterflies, guys!
Since I moved to the US I stopped going to salons for nail services, mostly because it is much more expensive here and in most cases it’s not done as good as back home. So as long as I can do it myself I decided that I can save at least on this, because beauty is expensive.
Before, I used to do Shellac regularly, but now I’m a little bit too lazy to get all the lamps and gels and do the whole thing myself, and I try to keep it to a minimum. Last week I was watching a video on youtube and one blogger recommended imPRESS press-on manicure kit from Kiss. I was so thrilled to find an option to substitute the Shellac (that I still miss sometimes) and get a full pack of hassle-free long-lasting “not-a-regular-ugly-glued artificial nails” and rock in them for at least 2 weeks!
Excited about this new beauty hack, I went to the closest store to get a pack of One-step Gel manicure the same day. The best part about these nails is that they look really natural and you don’t need any glue – they are self-adhesive. Following the steps as shown in the instructions I started to attach nail by nail to my natural nails. When I was done with putting them on, I had a pretty much nice and tidy manicure. All that was required in to file the edges as I prefer more rounded nails. I even had a tough time with replacing one nail as the glue in those nails is very strong, but doesn’t harm your natural nails in any way.
Long story short, I was really happy once I was done. Until I turned my hands and looked UNDER these nails.
The worst and really critical part is that there are gaps between natural and artificial nails. And what is even worse, there is still a line of glue in those gaps. Just think how impractical this is. Taking into consideration that I cook myself from scratch and I also do cleaning myself, I could only imagine how dirt will stick to that gap and bacteria will settle and breed there and its youngest generation will start shouting out “hello” from there.
I was very happy with realistic and natural result..
until I saw my nails underneath
I was so disguised by this thought that I didn’t even go anywhere with these nails. I just started removing them which was really challenging because, as I said before, the glue is very strong. The bamboo stick in the pack somehow helped to peel these nails off and thank God my natural nails were not damaged in any way. Did I mentioned that the whole process of applying these nails took me almost the same time as if I was painting my nails with a base, 2 coats of polish and a top coat?
I was quite disappointed by this experience, as I was really looking forward to some new options for a long-lasting manicure.
Now, I’m thinking to finally try the gel nail polishes that don’t require any lamp to dry, but I’m never ever spending my time and money on adhesive nails.
I strongly believe that sharing my personal bad experience is also good for other people to stay away from products that don’t work or those that are impractical for use.
Have you ever tried something like this? I’d like to hear about your experience in the comments down below!

We are living in a wonderful era when latest technologies in beauty and wellness can be used at home by a regular consumer. If 5 years ago, you only had a choice to go for a in-office treatments, now you can do most of the things at home: from laser hair removal to peelings, micro needling, skin toning and etc.
Although, I feel a little bit uncomfortable using some of the at-home devices myself (knowing myself for burning my skin with a simple wax) there are some devices and tool that I’d like to try this year.
So, today I’ll be sharing with you my wishlist on beauty devices and tools that I’m not scared to try on my own.
Thermal straightening brushes have become very popular last year, and this particular one has been featured in Allure magazine. This device combines the straightener and the brush to create smooth hair with just one stroke.
Amika brush incorporates special technology called Double Negative Ion Technology that maximize the negative ions to create shiny, frizz-free result. Ceramic bristles make each hair heat up fast and evenly to reduce the damage to the hair from the heat.
I’ve just got this one yesterday as a pre-birthday gift. I haven’t tried it yet, but can’t wait to try it on my hair. Would like to see the unboxing video? Let me know in the comments down below!
After moving to US and seeing prices on nail services, I started to think of getting my own gel manicure kit. Shellac has become a thing recently, and honestly, this is the only way for me to keep my nails on point. This small device is equipped with LED light and USB and looks very travel friendly to me. And it is so cute! It comes in a kit with gel nail polish, a cuticle stick, mini nail file and 10 remover pads for easy removal which makes is quite affordable. It takes only 30 sec to dry each nail and the device is reversible so that you can use it on your toes too!
Social Media got on fire about this device and people (including me) can’t wait till it’s released. Foreo, the brand known for its cute silicon cleaning brushes is launching a device that is believed to cut the time of facial masks from 20 minutes to only 90 seconds! Foreo’s UFO will come in two sizes. The full size device will feature both cooling and heating technologies, while the mini size will only have the heating option.
Both of the versions will feature the T-sonic Pulsation that will massage your face while improving the absorption of the mask ingredients and RGB LED Light Therapy known for stimulating collagen and refining complexion.
You can preorder it from the Kickstarter for half price. There are also good value kits available for order.
Not all good tools use latest breakthrough technologies and for some you don’t have to pay a fortune. As an example, think of this jade roller, another recently hyped tool, that has been integral part of beauty regime in China for centuries.
Why it is so good? This small unsophisticated massaging tool will boost blood circulation, reduce under-eye swelling, wrinkles, dark circles and aids in absorption of products into your skin. It is also known to eliminate toxins and improving skin appearance by tightening and minimizing pores.
It’s hard to admit, but cellulites is something most of the women have from the age of 18. Although there are no permanent cure from it, the skin can be improved by some massages and in-office treatments. Now, these procedures are available at home.
NuFace is also known for its Face Toning Device, and now they’ve released a similar microcurrent toning device for body that will help to visibly tighten and firm your skin. This body toning device has shown really good results during the clinic study. And if not for the price… Anyways, I’m still going to keep it in my wishlist.
I wasn’t planning to include this device in my post. First of all, I didn’t know about its existence ( also secretly wishing for such device for years).
Philips Skincare Assessment device is linked to an app on your phone that will collect the data and analyze your skin hydration level. This analysis will take your skin care routine to the next level. I’ve ordered this device right away today – it’s only $29.99 for the kit. I’m planning to make a separate review on this, so stay tuned!
For sure, there are much many devices, but these 6 seem the most easy, safe and user-friendly for me.
What device you would like to try from this list? Let me know in the comments down below!

While everyone is talking about all stars following #WhyWeWearBlack theme (and indeed wearing all black outfits) at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards to support the #TimesUp movement, we cannot get distracted from their flawless beauty looks this year.
In today’s post, I’d like to share with you top 5 makeup tips from these looks everyone should add to their makeup routine this year.
Do not overload your face with highlighters. Pay attention to your skin and foundation instead
Interestingly, but despite tons of astral high shine highlighters that we see on Instagram, the majority of stars were not wearing highlighters at all. At some, there is only a subtle glow, but still, not as much as we are used to see. Instead, the focus is on their flawless foundation and skin. We can see Zoe Kravitz’s cute freckles as she rocked the red carpet with her beautiful bare healthy skin.
Embrace your perfect nude lips
Regardless, of how their eyes were done, most of the stars arrived to red carpet with nude lips. There is a trick how to find your perfect nude color, you can find it here in our blog.
Open up your gaze by swiping beige pencil on your lower waterline
According to Pat McGrath, influential Makeup Artist, it also works as a concealer for your eyeballs as it reduces the redness in your eyes*. It is not as harsh as white color and will it works perfectly on everyone even with a minimum color on your face! Just as seen on Saoirse Ronan.
Do not forget to wear blush
In the times of harsh contouring and bronzing blush is sometimes neglected. However, as we see on the pictures, it freshens up the look by making it more healthy and youthful. Just make sure it matches your lipstick: if you plan to wear cooler shades for lipstick, wear same pallet on your cheeks.
Make a Statement
While most of the guests kept their eye makeup to minimum, some stars such as Zuri Hall opted for adding a pop of color to her eyes. I love her blue sparkling eyeshadows!
Today’s post is inspired by Mariia Cano‘s post where she shared her experience about some of the products that appeared to be not what was expected.
I’m going to start with the same intention sharing my list of not-impressed-me-at-all products as well as sharing what really works instead. So keep on reading!
1. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+
Although this CC cream is one of the Top Selling Products in Sephora this year according to Allure Magazine, I didn’t like it. Yes, it has SPF 50+ and yes it doesn’t dry out my skin, but the color selection is terrible, at least the Light shade that is closer to my complexion made me look grayish. On the days, when your face doesn’t really look healthy you turn to good foundation to add some color to your face, and this CC cream made me look even worse.
Alternatively, there is another DIY mask that stimulates growth and make your hair silky. I learnt it from my cousin. Here is the family recipe:
2 table spoons castor oil
1 tea spoon honey
Mix all the ingredients and apply the mixture to the roots. Add coconut butter on the length of your hair. Put a plastic cap on and wrap it with a towel. You would need to keep it for 2 hours, but the final result is really worth it. One more hack: use egg’s whites as a face mask to minimize pores: just whip the egg white and apply it to your face for 15-20 minutes.
3. SwissCo Soft Touch Oval Brush Polypin
I got this Shower Brush from Marshall’s for $4 and honestly, it doesn’t work at all! It gets stuck somewhere in the middle of the length and I hear tearing sounds (my hair screaming) as i’m trying to brush through my wet hair. Interestingly, that I neither liked using it on my dry hair. I remember my hair artist using Wet brush on my hair at the salon and it was gliding through so easily, definitely not like the one that I bought from SwissCo. So please please please, don’t even think of buying dupes, it isn’t really worth your time and your damaged hair.
Instead, get the Original Wet Brush. They come in different colors and designs so that you have a variety of handles to choose and the quality won’t be compromised.
4. PÜR – HydraGel Lift
Dark under eye circles is one of my biggest skin issues so I’m open to experiments searching for products to improve the skin in that area and to cover it with make up. If you are just like me, you have probably noticed that when you apply makeup in that area it starts to crease really fast. So I decided to get an under eye primer to smooth the natural lines under my eye and prevent the concealer from creasing.
I tried the HydraGel Lift under eye primer after reading some good reviews online. Honestly, it neither smoothes my lines, nor hydrates the skin to prepare it for concealer. All I was feeling is some cooling effect which was even bothering me a little bit during cold season.
I got a sample at Sephora and little goes a long way! Will definitely get myself a full size next year.
5. JUICE BEAUTY – SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen
Despite the natural formula with organic ingredients, I didn’t like the smell and the thickness of the formula that doesn’t really moisturize the skin, but make it very sticky. My husband didn’t like the smell either saying “it’s disgusting” every time I was applying it.
Luckily, here in US, stores like Sephora and Ulta have a customer-friendly return policy which actually keeps me less disappointed when the products does not work for me and doesn’t stop me from experimenting with new products.

After the poll in my instagram account, I decided to make series about my skin care routine.
Today’s post is dedicated to the Mega-Mushroom Skin ReliefSoothing Treatment Lotion by Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins. I was surprised by the effect of this lotion, so I decided to make a separate post about this magical product.
I have a sensitive skin, especially on my forehead after I get my brows shaped. I cannot get my eyebrows threaded or waxed because I get such a bad irritation that turns into acne and it heals up only by the time I need to groom my eyebrows again. The skin also gets irritated after tweezing, but I found a solution by applying anti-acne product that calms my skin and prevents from acne.
For years, I have been using Clinique Anti-Blemish ( known as in the EU or Acne Solutions in the USA) Clarifying Lotion for the whole face (as a teenager) and later on only on my forehead after tweezing. I found this product really good because of its active ingredient – Salicylic Acid. I remember I even panicked if I could forget to take it with me for my brow appointment.
Couple of months ago I’ve been at my regular browbar appointment and suddenly I realized that I didn’t take my Clinique lotion with me and they didn’t carry it in that particular store. I asked for a skin soothing lotion and I was introduced to this green bottle.
I applied it on my forehead right after the tweezing and on the next day I was amazed by the effect that my skin wasn’t irritated, red or covered with small pimples. At the same time, the skin wasn’t over-dried as it usually happened with Clinique.
On my next visit to the store I’ve check the ingredient list – 2/3 of it are the natural extracts and essential oils with the main ingredient – reishi mushroom extract.
This so-called “Mushroom of Immortality” is grown in China and is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This mushroom is known for promoting longevity, as well as for its healing and soothing properties, which are especially good for calming the sensitive skin.
The lotion has a very nice fragrance, which reminds me of the aromatherapy at Spa’s. I bought it right away and now it’s a part of my day and night time skin care routine. Indeed, it calms the skin, reduce the redness and is quite moisturizing. Bye-bye dry irritated skin!
