Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado

I’m very picky when it comes to eye creams. My main concern with this part of my face is the dark circles, and since I started my blog, my second concern has become hydration. Hydration is very important for such a delicate area. The makeup that you use can easily irritate and dehydrate the skin under your eyes, contributing to even darker circles and deeper fine lines.

I tried The Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado from Kiehl’s for the first time as a part of my Samples Challenge on Instagram. And to my surprise, I liked it!

Ingredients

This eye cream is packed with vitamins and ingredients that are so good for your skin. Starting with the main ingredient, Avocado Oil that is the source of amino acid proteins, Vitamins A, D, E and Potassium. Besides, it also contains beta-Carotene – a naturally-derived antioxidant that is used in Vitamin A production and Shea butter, known for its skin beneficial properties such as maintaining hydration and improving skin appearance.

Formula

Because of the avocado oil extract, this cream is very rich and moisturizing. The best part of it – it absorbs very fast and it is ophthalmologist- and dermatologist-tested. And it is very lightweight.

sunkissedblush_avocado_kielhs (4 of 4)

As the cream absorbs pretty fast, it doesn’t migrate to your eyes and creates a perfectly smooth base for the eye makeup. The cream is now a part of my morning routine and I always apply it before concealers.

Application Tips

The texture of the cream is very thick, but it melts when you start to dab the product under your eye. For an even smoother application, it is recommended to warm up the product between your fingers before applying it to your face. It even changes the color from green to translucent when being warmed up by your skin and simply sinks under your skin.

Final Words

Hydration smoothes the fine lines and for a second I had a feeling that it also works with my dark circles. The result may be not that prominent as after eye creams from La Mer or Onsen, however, it supports that fact that hydration is the key to keeping your skin youthful and beautiful.

Must Have Drugstore Concealer

Many years ago, in my childhood, I remember my mom’s friend saying that you can’t go cheap with skin care and makeup, it has to be a high-end product. And this has become my philosophy especially after I stumbled with some drugstore products several times while growing up.

However, this statement is not always true.

The product that has just become my Holy Grail is sold at every drugstores and groceries. It’s Maybelline Makeup Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser Concealer.

Maybellin Concealer

I tried at least a dozen of expensive concealers so far, including Tarte, YSL, Chanel and etc, you name it. However, neither of them can beat this one in many aspects. To name a few, it’s lightweightness, hydrating properties, and crease-free finish.

Active Ingredients

The formula is infused with goji berry extracts and Haloxyl. Goji Berry is known for its skin benefits, such as improving hydration, brightening, lighting and toning effect  – thanks to vitamin C inside – without causing irritation.

Haloxyl is another active ingredient, widely used in the beauty industry today, as it combats the look of dark circles, wrinkles and fine lines. Together, they contribute to a more radiant, youthful eye contour area.

Maybelline Concealer
Wearing nothing more but the Maybelline Concealer and Dior DreamSkin Perfect Skin Cushion

Formula & Coverage

The concealer has a medium coverage and once my skin absorbs it, the color seems to adjust better to my complexion. It has more of a natural matte finish and doesn’t crease or overload my under-eye area. It is very lightweight and covers my dark circles without any dryness because of the ingredients listed above. And it doesn’t melt away during the day!

Maybelline Concealer

Applicator

I would argue the applicator since such applicators are usually impossible to clean and they are in direct contact with skin and the product can easily get contaminated and contribute to bacteria breeding. Fortunately, this one is anti-microbial.

Pro Tips

Whenever I’m having a good sleep and my dark circles are not that bad I’m using this product alone. In other cases, I use a peach corrector underneath to cancel the darkness and this concealer on top for more of a awaken effect.

I usually use my fingers to blend out the edges of the product.

The product comes 12 shades, including Neutralizer (works the same as orange/peach concealer) and Brightener, that you can use to add luminosity to the inner corner of your eyes, brow bones, cheek, bridge of the nose. The best matching shade for me is Light.

Overall, indeed it’s a product everyone must have. The beauty of it, that you don’t need to break the bank to own a good product like this. And yes, beauty can be affordable.

Have you ever tried this product? If yes, share your opinion in the comments down below!

Lip Sets Battle: Huda Beauty vs Pat McGrath Labs

Hello, my beauties!

Today’s post is about comparing two lip sets: one from Pat McGrath Labs called LiquiLUST 007 in Divine Nude/Bronze and the other one is from Huda Beauty called Contour & Strobe Lip Set in Muse/Angelic.

DSCF6901

Why did I decide to do this?

Both of these brands are relatively new and both are very responsive to beauty trends. The two products that I’ve picked for comparison today have a lot in common, starting from the point that both of these sets have gained a lot of popularity among bloggers and beauty experts. Meanwhile, being so similar, there is definitely something distinctive about them, and there should be a reason why someone would prefer one set over another.

I picked mauve shade in both of the sets on purpose to see how they will be different while being of the same shade.

Packaging

The first thing that you will notice is a difference in packaging. Huda Beauty Contour & Strobe Lip Set comes in a lip-shaped tin with 3 products in a set. This tin can be easily reused for storing small objects or makeup.

DSCF6918

On the contrary, Pat McGrath’s LiquiLUST 007 comes in a sealed plastic bag filled with iridescent purple sequins and 2 products in a pack. I had so much excitement when I was doing my “unboxing video“. However, the package goes straight to trash, unless you want to fill a jar with these sequins to decorate your room.

DSCF6905

Both of these sets are limited edition and both are available at Sephora. While Contour & Strobe Lip Set is available in 5 different shades, LiquiLUST 007 Divine Nude version is presented exclusively at Sephora in one shade. There are also two more variation with the same number of products, however it is presented exclusively on the official website and currently is sold out.

Pricing/Value for Money

The lipstick and lip strobe from Huda Beauty Contour & Strobe Lip Set come in mini size, while you get a full-size lip pencil. The price for the set is $25, while if you buy full-size products individually you will pay $57 in total. On the contrary, Pat McGrath Labs LuquiLUST 007 contains 2 full-size products. The price for the set is $38, while it’s value is $47. Interestingly, but you cannot really buy each of these items separately. Meanwhile, if we add lip pencil from the same brand ($25), the total for the “full set” from Pat McGrath Labs will cost $63 which is a little more than same “full set” from Huda Beauty.

Undertones

Even though both of these sets contain mauve shade products, they differ in undertones. There might be a minimal difference when you apply the products on your lips, but as you see on the swatches on the back of my arm, Muse from Contour & Strobe Lip liquid lipstick has cooler, more purplish undertone compared to Divine Nude liquid lipstick from LuquiLUST 007 with more of a rose undertone. Interestingly, but the lip pencil shade from Huda Beauty almost matches the liquid lipstick from Pat McGrath Labs!

DSCF6924-Edit-Edit

As for the lip strobes and lip glosses, Angelic Lip strobe from Huda Beauty is more pigmented and has a warmer light peach rose undertones with gold reflections compared to more transparent Astral Vinyl Gloss from Pat with beautiful fine golden sparkles.

Formula

Huda Beauty’s Lip Contour Matte Pencil in Muse is a very creamy matte lip pencil and glides on easily on your lips.

DSCF6868-Edit

Muse lipstick is a liquid matte creamy lipstick which is very pigmented and has a thick formula. Similarly, Divine Nude is also a liquid matte creamy lipstick, but has a rather thinner formula and feels lightweight on the lips. They both provide nice full coverage. I prefer the wand from Pat McGrath more, as it distributes the product more evenly and there is no need to use any additional brush to apply the lipstick to the lips. For Huda Beauty, I had to use a lip brush and wait extra time for it to dry because of the thickness.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Muse               Pat McGrath Liquid Lipstick in Divine Nude

As I mentioned before, Angelic lip strobe has more pigment and is much thicker, while Astral Vinyl Gloss in Bronze is more transparent. The first one makes your lip pop even more as it reflects the light better, while the last one has more of a natural finish and those fine sparkles only compliment the matte liquid lipstick. Angelic lip strobe comes in a package identical to Muse liquid lipstick, while Astral Vinyl Gloss in Bronze comes in a tube. I apply the last one with my fingers as seen in commercials.

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Angelic                      Pat McGrath Astal Vinyl Gloss in Bronze

The Feel

When using all three products from the Contour & Strobe Lip Set, I felt that I have too much of products on my lips. It may be perfect for pictures as the light hits your lips making it look plumper, but in real life, it looked a little too much for me. Moreover, the shade is darker and it’s purple undertone, in my opinion, does not really go well with my complexion.

Divine Nude, on the other hand, is more lightweight and it is much easier to apply because of the smoother formula and wand. Interestingly, Bronze gloss only enhances the look and makes lips even softer. I even had a feeling that these two product are made to be used together.

Verdict

Personally, If I had to pick a winner from these two, I would say that I’ve liked Pat McGrath lip set more as I found those shades and formula work better for me even though it cost $38 and you get only two products. You can definitely tell how natural it looks on my lips.

DSCF6885-Edit

If you prefer more of a stand-out look, plumper lips, definitely go for Huda Beauty. By the way, there are new sets of Huda Beauty liquid lipsticks which you don’t want to miss!

bareMinerals BarePro Concealer

Hello, my beauties!

Today I’m sharing with you my review about a product that I have received complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster!

DSCF7225

I was very excited to get the VoxBox from Influenster as this is my first time when I’m being sent a product in exchange for my opinion. And it counts!

Once again, this blog post is not sponsored and everything you read here is based on my honest opinion. Let’s get started!

DSCF7227

First Impression

This is the New BarePro 16-hour Full Coverage Concealer from bareMinerals. It comes in a variety of shades, 15 in total, ranging from fair to deep. I have received 01 Fair-Cool shade and have already been testing it on my skin for a while.

The concealer comes as a cream stick. The formula is creamy, yet it is very lightweight and has a matte finish. The Bamboo Stem Extract indeed smoothes the lines and pores, but the coverage is rather medium-to-full than full. Besides, there are also extracts of Raspberry Seed Oil, Blackcurrant Seed Oil and Sea Lavender which are considered as powerful antioxidants that nourish, hydrate and protect the skin against environmental stressors.

DSCF7316

Even though it’s a cream stick concealer and has such a nice list of ingredients, it dries very fast, so it blends best the moment you apply it to your skin. I use my ring finger to blend the product as I feel that the heat from the fingers makes it more flexible to blend and I can achieve a more natural look. I don’t use a lot of a product at once, I rather build up the coverage steadily until the desired coverage is achieved.

DSCF7233

I have to admit that unfortunately, I received a wrong shade which is at least 1-2 tones lighter than my skin is (my complexion is light-to-medium almost in all foundations and concealers). However, in small amounts the shade that I received still worked to lighten up and cover my under eye area. It has a little bit of crease after several hours, but not as much as other concealers like Shape Tape Concealer from Tarte. The last one works perfect only on pictures but it is very thick, heavy, creases in fine lines and emphasize pores.

DSCF7266-2
I’ve applied the concealer only under my right eye, keeping my left eye bare to show you the difference.

Summing up the above, here are the key things to consider:

Pros:

  • creamy lightweight formula
  • smoothes the appearance of pores and small fine lines
  • non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic
  • water-resistant, smudge-proof
  • 15 shades from fair to deep
  • natural look

Cons:

  • dries fast, less time to work with
  • not a full coverage formula
  • creases a little after several hours
  • doesn’t last for the whole day

Verdict:

Overall, it’s a good concealer to try as it feels weightless and minimizes pores and small lines. Because of the wrong color, it is a little tricky to fully evaluate the product, so I’m thinking of getting my shade at Sephora ( I believe it is Light/Medium-Neutral 05) to see how that will work as well. However, there is definitely room for improvement of the formula to make it truly long-wear so that it really can become a five-star product. Right now, I have to rate this product with 3.5 stars even though I like bareMinerals a lot.

Acknowledgement:  I’d like to thank bareMinerals and Influenster for this amazing opportunity to be a part of the program.

Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation: Hit or Miss?

Today’s review is the longest and the most detailed compared to what I’ve done before.

Let me know if you like such detailed posts in the comments down below!

The Story

I had a very hard time with this foundation. The whole story starts from the moment when they just have been launched at Tarte.com. I used a quiz to find my “perfect match” and I’ve ordered Hydrating Foundation in Light Neutral and some other things the same day. When the package finally arrived I’ve realized that I picked a wrong shade: I also ordered Shape Tape concealer in the same shade and tried it first – appeared to be 1-2 shades lighter than I am. I didn’t even try the foundation – I already new that I was lighter than I needed and didn’t want to waste the product and returned it.

DSCF6805

Then I waited till they will be available at Ulta to get the right shade. When it finally happened and I got to the store, the assistant showed me the stand with the foundations and I asked her to pick the right color to me. She picked the Light-Medium Sand. I asked if there were more neutral shades but she said Hydrating line don’t have them only the Matte Foundations. I wanted the hydrating line so I decided to go with this color.

First Impression

When I came home and applied the product all over my face I saw a round yellow face looking at me in the mirror. It was horrible. I was upset with my purchase, but didn’t take it off as I wanted to test the formula since I’ve already used it.

DSCF6804

By the end of the day, it looked horrible as well: patches of foundation were missing on my cheeks around my nose although I was using my regular primer underneath and applied the foundation with the round brush.

I decided to read the reviews on this products to see if other people have the same issues. At that moment (finally!) I realized that there are much more shades for each type of the shape tape foundation. I was even more upset that the assistant in Ulta didn’t tell me that I could get the right shade online if they didn’t have it in store!

DSCF6794
How shades of my other foundations compare to each other(from left to right): ABH Stick foundation in Beige; Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation in Light-Medium Sand, Armani Silk Luminous Foundation #5; Dior NudeSkin BB Cream #002

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know how upset I was with this service. Nevertheless, I still decided to test-drive the formula one more time. This time with pictures doing my best to disregard the shade.

I’ve looked through the shade names today again and realized that Hydrating and Matte shade names don’t match! This is what caused the confusion to the assistant: there are neutral shades but they are just called differently.

Tarte Cosmetics, but why so?

Final Test-Drive

Packaging

The foundation comes in a glass bottle. To open it you need to unscrew the lid and it pops with an applicator – the same that comes in their Shape Tape Concealers but in a bigger size. From one side, it is really convenient to apply the foundation straight on your face. From the other side, such applicator can easily breed bacteria inside of the bottle and cause breakouts to your skin.

DSCF6800

The Shade Selection

Although there was a dispute about scarce selection for deep completions, I still think they have a really nice range of shades. Moreover, they promised to release 10 more shades for the people who’s complexion shade is missing.

1213-shape-tape-hydrating__DDB_misc-alt-2_ALT
tartecosmetics.com

If you plan to buy it online, I would recommend testing the shades in store first. As I was told by Tarte Customer Service, Hydrating Foundation best matched with the Hybrid Gel/Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation. If you have not used this product before you can try it at Sephora. Or go straight to Ulta, but make sure no one convinces you about lack of shades in any of the formulas.

One more tip: don’t try to match the shade name of the concealer that you have to the new foundation, chances are that this idea might mislead you.

Formula Expectation

Here is the information from the brand about key ingredients:

  • biopolymer filling spheres: expanding spheres help smooth surface imperfections while promoting water retention & hydration
  • hyaluronic acid: naturally-occurring ingredient in the human body which delivers moisture, firmness & suppleness to skin
  • collagen: helps plump the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
  • barley extract: helps restore the lipid barrier to smooth over fine lines & wrinkles
  • dermal filler: cross-linked hyaluronic acid that works overtime to help restore skin volume & smoothness
  • vitamin C: antioxidant free radical fighter that helps prevent premature signs of aging & brightens skin
  • Amazonian clay: nature’s most perfect ingredient for better, longer, truer wear

Above is very promising, so I decided to test it on my skin. My skin is normal both in oil and hydration level and I prepared my skin with scrubs, masks and a stronger primer for the sake of this test.

Here is what I expect from this foundation :

Formula Reality

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The formula is thicker than I normally use. Despite the thickness, the coverage is light-to-medium. When I tried to build up the coverage, even by using a damp beauty blender to blend out the foundation all over my face I still saw that it is a little patchy. I tried to smooth it out and filled the gaps with the foundation to ensure that all my face is covered.

DSCF6767
It looks so much better on the pictures but not in real life: Yes, it add glow to the skin, covers the blemishes but also reveals the texture
DSCF6771
I had a hard time blending this foundation

After that, I set my face with translucent powder – I do not use it that often, but today I’m doing everything to prove that my first impression is wrong. After I completed my regular day makeup, I applied the All-nighter Setting Spray all over my makeup.

DSCF6782
I managed to neutralize the yellow shade by using bronzer as a contouring powder on my cheeks and eyes and also the blush. I also used highlighters as regular.

When I look at myself in the mirror, I can’t say that I really like it as I don’t see the promised smoother and fresh & healthy-looking complexion. Neither, did I noticed it when I used it for the first time without the setting powder and setting spray. And don’t be fooled by the pictures! Camera eats up the texture of the skin that is revealed by this foundation.

In the next few hours I’ve noticed that on the parts of my cheeks where i didn’t use any bronzer or blush, the skin looked oily and pores look enlarged. Yes, foundation added luminosity to the skin, but huge pores is definitely not something I was aiming for. It also starts to come off slightly.

DSCF6813

The oilier it became, the more I would feel it on my skin. And honestly, I don’t remember the last time my skin was this oily.

If you can see the darker line around my nostril then you see how the foundation disappeared around my nose. The more I was keeping it on, the less foundation was on my nose. I used a blotting paper on my cheek at it removed the “healthy” shine. As I understand from this, the ingredients in foundation increased the oil production in my skin that from one side adds luminosity but it also melts the foundation from the other side.

The skin became patchy in that area and no longer lightweight – you can also see it on the photo above. By the way, the photo was taken before I used the blotting papers. I removed the whole makeup by the end of the 6th hour of wearing it.

My Verdict

Although my first and second impressions were not so good, I still wanted to give this foundation a chance. It somewhat performed better when I used tons of other products to keep it in place longer, but it definitely not what I was looking for.

Yes, it adds luminosity but it makes my skin produce more oil. I felt oily even on the next day and this doesn’t add points to this foundation.

The formula is thick and quite hard to blend, even with a smooth primer underneath and a damp sponge. It also reveals the texture.

The coverage is too light and uneven for the thickness that we get and the shine that appears on my cheeks eats up the makeup and makes my pores look even larger.

It definitely won’t stay for the 12h: only maybe if you keep reapplying the setting spray.

But really, why so much hassle for $40?

Yes, I agree that the formula and ingredients sounds very good, but feels like it didn’t work for me that well. For this price I expected something better.

My experiment showed me that I need to search more for my perfect foundation and it’s definitely not Shape Tape.

Have you tried this foundation? Let me know if you liked it or not!
