Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x multi-styler honest review

A few months ago, Dyson relaunched their award-winning Dyson Airwrap, presenting the Co-anda2x model. With the pricetag higher than that of any other Dyson Airwrap tool released to date at a whopping $749.99, the same question comes to mind: Is the redesigned Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x worth it?

Is Dyson Aiwrap Worth it?

I’ve been using Dyson Supersonic since 2019, and it has completely changed my hair for the better. You can check out my dedicated blog post about the Dyson Supersonic, where I share all the details of my experience. Spoiler alert: fast-forward to 2026, and it still works like new.

In this post, we take a dive into the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x and compare it to the older model I’ve been using for a couple of years, so you can make the most informed decision for your needs.

First and foremost, Dyson Airwrap is a hair styling tool, not a curler. It is engineered for multiple hair types and lengths, with a range of versatile, interchangeable attachments* that help you achieve the desired style. It was designed to dry, style, and straighten hair (the Co-anda2x model includes a straightening attachment) without extreme heat.

Evolution of Dyson Airwrap

The original Dyson Airwrap was launched back in 2018 and became one of the most desired hair tools. It was, for sure, state-of-the-art technology that completely changed how hair is styled with just air, without extreme heat (and damage).In 2022, Dyson redesigned the tool and relaunched the upgraded, more powerful, and ergonomic Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler, which was available in several sets based on hair type and length. A year later, you could even customize your attachment preference when ordering directly from the brand’s website.

In 2024, the brand released the Dyson Airwrap I.D., which added Bluetooth connectivity to the MyDyson app for one-touch, personalized styling. However, Dyson didn’t stop there, and in 2025 released Airwrap Co-anda2x.

Comparing Dyson Airwrap multi-stylers

Since Dyson offers three generations of Airwrap multi-stylers at this time, I made a chart to make it easier for you to see the differences between the models: Dyson Airwrap Origin (2022), Dyson Airwrap I.D.(2024), and Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x (2025), based on your hair type and length, so you can compare. As mentioned, Dyson offers several models, and if you are still unsure, they have a quiz to help you decide.

As you can see, both Dyson Aiwrap i.d. and Dyson Co-anda2x come with a body, at least six( 6) attachments, and a storage case. Some sets include additional accessories, such as a Wide Tooth Comb, a filter cleaning brush (older models), but can also be purchased separately. Dyson Airwrap Origin, on the other hand, comes with only three attachments. Currently, the new Co-nda2x is available in two sets based on hair types (Straight/Wavy and Curly/Coily) and in three shades: Ceramic Pink/Rose Gold, Jasper Plum, and Amber silk.

The Co-anda2x models are redesigned to be lighter and more powerful. Dyson made some ergonomic changes, moving the control buttons lower on the tool’s body and adding intelligent features so you don’t need to make manual adjustments while using the styler.

Coanda effect explained

If you are not familiar with this terminology, the word “Coanda” is not a new marketing term as one might assume, but rather the core principle behind how Airwrap works. If you have ever tried to pour a liquid from one cup to another, the Coanda effect is responsible for spilling the liquid, which seems to coat or follow the shape of the cup from where you are pouring. This aerodynamic phenomenon was named after Romanian inventor Henri Coandă, who first recognized its practical application in aircraft design around 1910. It was first documented explicitly in two patents issued in 1936.

In the Dyson Airwrap, the Coanda effect styles hair with air, not extreme heat. It uses air to attract and wrap hair around the barrel and the brush surface.

Dyson Airwrap Attachments Explained

In the first Dyson Airwrap model, you would get two sets of each barrel-size attachment, with each of the barrels curling hair in only one direction. Shark, by the way, still builds its FlexStyle this way, which is said to be the dupe for the Dyson machine.

In the upgraded Airwrap models, despite being the greatest challenge, since 2022, Dyson engineers have combined two barrels into one, so there is no need to switch between barrels to change the airflow direction. Both clockwise and counterclockwise curls and waves can be created by just turning the knob, or as Dyson calls it, “cool tip”, which is designed to be cold to the touch, on the top of the barrel. The same principle applies to upgraded Dyson Airwrap models released in 2024 and 2025.

Except for the Co-anda2x model and its attachments, all other Dyson Aiwrrap attachments are interchangeable.

The redesigned Co-anda 2x attachments are equipped with an RFID chip that makes Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x™ multi-styler a smart hair tool: it recognizes each styling attachment when connected. Moreover, you can preset your styling preferences in the MyDyson app, which will guide you through the entire styling sequence saved for your hair type.

Curling Barrels:

1.2 and 1.6 inches

Across all Dyson Airwrap models (except for the Origin model with only three basic attachments), all sets for straight/wavy hair type include two curling barrel attachments: 1.2” and 1.6” barrels (diameter size). In 2022 models, the barrels were available in two lengths: regular and long. However, starting with the Dyson Airwrap i.d., the curling barrels are available only in one size, which is equivalent to Long. A 1.2-inch barrel is best for voluminous curls or waves, while a 1.6-inch barrel creates looser curls and waves.

In 2024, alongside the release of the Dyson Airwrap i.d., Dyson introduced the 1.2 inch Conical barrel, a redesigned 1.2-inch barrel engineered to style closer to the roots for more defined curls across all hair types, compared to the original Airwrap 1.2 barrel.

Airwap Co-anda2X also includes Co-anda2x 1.2 and 1.6 barrels, which are also designed specifically for this tool; both barrels’ shapes are back to straight. The cool tips got an upgrade from round to rectangular, flat-shaped knobs.

0.8-inch curling barrel

In 2020, Dyson also released a 0.8” curling barrel, which you can purchase separately and can be used with any Dyson Airwrap model except for the recently released Co-anda2x. Airwrap 0.8″ curling barrel creates longer-lasting curls in fine hair and tighter curls in all hair types. For Co-anda2x, Dyson released a 0.8″ barrel equivalent attachment that I could also get my hands on to try.

After using Airwrap Coanda2x with a 0.8-inch barrel, I’m totally sold on this device. My curls indeed lasted for hours on Day 1, and the style still looked good on Day 2, and even on Day 3 and Day 4!

Dryer Attachment

In the redesigned 2022 model, Dyson upgraded the Coanda Smoothing Dryer Attachment to the Smoothing Dryer Attachment. This attachment replaced a dryer attachment and could also be used as a flyaway attachment when you switched the knob. Coanda smoothing dryer focused airflow to dry, smooth, and hide flyaways. It was the first attachment to use after you towel-dried your hair to pre-style it. You could continue using this attachment and finish your style with the smoothing mode. According to Dyson’s website, this attachment reduced frizz and flyaways by 58%, resulting in a smoother, shinier finish.

In 2024, in the Airwrap i.d. models, the Smoothing Dryer attachment was renamed to Dryer + Flyaway Smoother, and Dyson added a redesigned open-loop-style Original Fast Dryer Attachment. The Co-anda2x model uses a similar, in-design dryer attachment, and it does exactly what it says: it rough-dries the hair fast to prepare it for styling.

Airsmooth2x

Airsmooth2x™ attachment replaced the Dryer+ Flyaway attachment and resembles a flat iron. Designed to be a finishing attachment, the Airsmooth2x attachment uses high-velocity airflow to create the tension needed to smooth dry hair using only air pressure.

Brush Attachment

In the brush attachments released in 2022 and later, Dyson also improved the Conda airflow for more precision and more control in styling to create volume and reduce frizz.

For the Co-anda2x model, the brush was redesigned with controlled airflow and tapered bristles that allow for styling a section at a time without disturbing surrounding hair. The Co-anda2x brush glides more easily through hair and doesn’t get stuck like traditional round brushes.

In 2023, the brand released a Large Round Volumizing brush attachment that became one of my favorite styling tools. Unfortunately, there are currently no large brush attachments for the Co-anda2x model, but I hope they will be released by Dyson soon.

Smoothing brush

Smoothing brush attachments are designed to “smooth and control finer hair with enhanced Coanda airflow to attract and align hair to the surface of the brush to shape with increased control“. This attachment was redesigned in 2022 and was available in two types: Soft and Firm. Both are designed for straight styles. The Soft Smoothing Brush is for Straight/Wavy hair types, as fine hair requires a gentler approach; regular bristles can cause breakage. The Firm Smoothing brush is best suited for Coily/Coarse hair types and features hard bristles that can comb through thick hair without irritating the scalp.

Both soft and firm smoothing brushes were later redesigned into an anti-snag loop attachment to reduce snagging and improve scalp comfort. This attachment id included with Airwrap i.d. sets for all hair types. The anti-snag loop brush is best for a smooth, blow-dry finish.

Anti-snag loop brush 2x brush redesigned for Co-anda2x model features new loop bristles that compress as you brush your hair. Instead of hair getting caught, this change allows them to easily slide off the bristle. The benefits also include a smoother, more aligned finish when compared to. Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ soft smoothing brush.

Wide-tooth comb

The wide-tooth comb was introduced with the 2022 Aiwrwap model and features robust teeth for curly and coily hair types. It can lengthen your curls and coils as they dry, while also shaping and volumizing your hair using the Coandă effect instead of extreme heat.

With the Airwrap Co-anda2x release, this attachment was redesigned to Tension comb 2x. It features high-velocity targeted airflow that dries hair fast, while also stretching and smoothing curly and coily hair.

Diffuser

The Dyson Airwrap diffuser attachment, also introduced in 2022, simulates natural drying for curly and coily hair by alternating prongs to evenly distribute air over your hair. Best for naturally curly, coily, or wavy hair types, this attachment helps to limit the frizz and define and enhance hair. The diffuser was redesigned with Aiwrap i.d. and has a new format diffuser that disperses airflow in two different ways.

For the latest upgrade, Dyson redesigned the diffuser in a single attachment – Wave and curl Diffuser 2x that has two modes: Dome mode enhances and defines natural shapes, while diffuse mode adds volume and texture when compared to natural air drying. The attachment is promised to deliver less frizz for waves, curls, and coils.

Dyson Airwrap Motor

Coandă effects require a powerful motor to generate sufficient air pressure, and with every new Dyson Airwrap, we get an even more powerful motor.

In 2018, Dyson upgraded the motor in Dyson Airwrap to a digital motor V9, which is still used in Dyson Airwrap Origin and Airwrap i.d. multi-stylers. This motor features the 13-blade impeller, which spins at a speed of up to 110,000rpm, generating 3.2kPa. For Airwrap Co-anda2x, the engineering team upgraded the motor to a Dyson Hyperdymium™ 2 motor.

This upgraded motor produces twice the air pressure of the predecessor, to dry hair as fast as a full-performance hair dryer: Dyson Airwrap i.d. and Origin generate 1300 watts, compared to Airwrap Co-anda2x’s power measured at 1700 watts, which is equivalent to Dyson Supersonic r™ Professional hair dryer. Dyson Supersonic Nural, on the other hand, generates 1600 watts.

Airwrap Co-anda2x also shows increases the airflow (15.2 l/s vs 13.5 l/s for Airwrap i.d. and Origin). Getting into more specs, the motor impeller in the latest Dyson Airwrap spins at a speed of up to 150,000rpm and generates 7kPa of pressure. These higher numbers show increased Coanda effect, which contributes to improved hair wrapping and faster styling in general.

Dyson Airwrap shares the same Intelligent Heat Control Technology as Dyson Supersonic, measuring airflow temperature 40 times per second and intelligently controlling the heating element to keep the temperature below 302°F, preventing extreme heat damage. In addition, Dyson Aiwrap is ionic, meaning it generates negative ions in the airflow to reduce static in the hair. With Airwrap i.d. and Co-anda2x, you can also use the My Dyson app that turns this styler into a smart device by pairing it with your phone using Bluetooth technology. After inputting the information on your hair type and saving it under your name (the app allows several user profiles per one tool), the app creates a sequence that works best for your hair type and the attachment that you use.  The app stores your wrap, curl, and cool shot settings, so you don’t need to count.

Dyson’s engineering team went a step further when developing the Co-anda2x model and added RFID to each attachment so the tool automatically identifies the attachment and adjusts the settings when connected to the app.

Ergonomics

Dyson Airwrap Origin and i.d. model has a lot in common with Dyson Supersonic: you can control the airflow speed and the heat with three settings plus a cold shot button, which deactivates the heating element right away for cooler air to set your style. It is the best feature compared to curling irons, as hairstyles and curls usually last longer when you finish with a cold shot. I spoke a lot about ergonomics of Dyson Supersonic, and the same applies to Dyson Airwrap Origin and I.d. models. The buttons are all in the right place and more convenient to make any adjustments to the speed or heat right on the body of the styler. For instance, with Dyson Airwrap Origin and id. models, you can keep your locks on the barrel while cooling them down and just push the power button up to manually control the cold shot.

With Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x everything changed. First of all, while improving the power of the tool, the engineering team managed to decrease the weight of the multi-styler to 0.9lbs (compared to 1.5lbs of the previous models). This upgrade, along with more integrated smart features (the tool recognizing the attachment and adjusting the heat and airflow based on preferred settings), had to place the speed and heat controllers lower on the body, while keeping the power button and a separate cold shot higher on the body. This model also has 4 heat and 3 speed controls, compared to 3/3 of predecessors.

With the Co-anda2x model, Dyson upgraded the cold knob on the attachments, which gives you more grip, especially if you have long nails. Also, the reduction in weight allows for more maneuvers with the tool. The attachment lock button has also changed its position from vertical to horizontal.

Interestingly, the cord length has changed in between models: Airwap Origin has one 6.6 ft long, while the i.d. model’s cord is 8.5ft, and with Co-anda2x, you get a 6.56 ft long cable. All models feature 360 degree swivel cord.

The size of the Dyson Airwrap remains consistent between models: 1.6×1.9×10.7 inches for previous models and 1x2x10 inches for the Co-anda2x model.

What is in the Box:

As mentioned, Dyson Airwrap currently offers three generations of multi-stylers: Airwrap Origin, Airwrap i.d. (Straight/Wavy and Coily/Curly), and Airwrap Co-anda2x (Straight/Wavy and Coily/Curly). The contents of the box will depend on the styler’s model, type, and edition. Typically, you get six (6) attachments, a storage case, and a filter cleaner. Here is what is included in the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x Straight+ Wavy model:

If you love styling your hair and are looking for less-damaging options, whether you have color-treated or chemically-treated hair, the Dyson Airwrap is a must-have.

Is Dyson Airwrap easy to use?

The Dyson Airwrap is pretty user-friendly, and once you get used to it, you will appreciate its ergonomics even more. I am the type of person who usually struggles with all the hot tools, as I always get confused about where and how to turn my hand with the wand. With Airwrap, you just twist the knob and literally follow the flow… it is much easier to use in that regard compared to other multi-stylers. Dyson Airwrap Origin and id. are ergonomically well-designed, with all buttons in the right places, so you can adjust the air temperature and speed without looking at the tool. Dyson Co-anda2x is absolutely amazing to use, with a lighter weight and more smart features, so you don’t need to adjust anything as you style your hair. There’s a separate cold-shot elongated button under the on/off button, right under your thumb, if you need it.

Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler can be used on both dry/wet hair, but styling is best when the hair is 80% dry. You can use the Dryer attachment to dry the roots, a brush to dry and smooth the strands, and styling attachments to curl or add volume.

How to make Dyson Airwrap curls last

I’ve heard mixed reviews about curls not lasting long with the Dyson Airwrap and experienced that myself. Before we get into a solution, I’d like to remind you that Dyson is not a traditional curling iron. Even with styling using a curling iron, you would likely achieve a more voluminous look rather than very tight lasting curls. However, there are a few things you can add or change in your haircare routine that will help your style last and look good even on day 3.

The rule of thumb with the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler is to ensure hair is at least 80-90% dry before using a curling attachment. It is usually recommended to use a heat protectant, mousse, or styling cream for hold before using the Dyson Airwrap. After wrapping a section of hair around a barrel and waiting 10 seconds, press the hold/cold shot button for 10 seconds to set the curl. Once it’s cool to touch, keep the curl closed or curl it back up, pin it with a creaseless clip, and spray with texture spray or hold spray. Keep it pinned for roughly 30 minutes. This is very helpful when you need to put your hair away while doing your makeup and will help you hold your curls tighter for longer.

From my experience, I tried the following routine to make the Dyson Airwrap curls last until day 3. I started with clean, freshly washed wet hair. I added a mix of Olaplex No.6 and Olaplex No. 7 (1 squeeze + 1 drop mixed together) to the length and K-18 Astrolift Reparative Volume Spray to my roots for volume. I also sprayed Davines OI All in One Milk on the length. After that, I used the Dryer attachment on the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x to rough-dry my hair to about 80-90% dry, then used a 0.8-inch curling barrel. I followed the program that was already created for my hair in MyDyson app. I left the front part out, and once all my hair was curled, I finished curling the front-framing piece using a 1.6-inch barrel. After that, I used 1 pump of Davines OI Hair Oil to add shine and lock moisture on my curls, and finished with spraying Davines This is A Dry Wax Finishing Spray.

Here is a TikTok video where I show you the timestamps for how long the style lasts, using the steps mentioned above. Of course, the longevity of the style will also depend on your hair type and environment, so I highly recommend experimenting with styling products if you already own the Dyson Airwrap to see what works best for you.

Dyson Airwrap filter

It is easy to clean the Dyson Airwrap filter. You can find the perforated filter on the Dyson Airwrap body, near the edge where the cable attaches. All you need to do is pull down the filter to the cord, open and remove it from the device. You can wash the filter and let it dry before reinstalling it. Alternatively, wipe away lint and dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Older models come with a filter cleaning brush.

Cleaning the clogged filter is usually the troubleshooting needed when the Dyson Airwrap stops working or flashes red due to overheating. If you experience this issue, leave the device unplugged for an hour to cool down. You can get support for other Dyson Airwrap issues at Dyson Support.

Co-anda2x models are equipped with a filter sensor, and the app will send a notification to your phone when it’s time to change the filter.

Where to buy Dyson Airwrap

Dyson Airwrap multi-styler is available on Dyson’s official website and at retailers such as Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks, and Ulta, among others. The Co-anda2x model is currently available on the brand’s official website, Sephora, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Best Buy, and Ulta.

Dyson Airwrap vs Dyson Supersonic

When shopping for my first Dyson hair tool in 2019, I had to choose between the Dyson Supersonic and the Dyson Airwrap. Even though I never regretted getting the Dyson Supersonic, as I shared in a dedicated blog post, I still decided to get the Airwrap for myself in 2022. Since I own and use both now, I can confirm that while you don’t need Supersonic if you have an Airwrap, I love having both. Supersonic has more temperature settings and works well when I need to blow-dry my hair quickly at a low temperature and high speed. I switch to Airwrap when I’m ready to style my hair. 

With the Airwrap Co-anda2x model, I stopped reaching for Supersonic as much as usual, since it is more powerful than Supersonic and has the same number of temperature and airflow controls. I still love the Gentle air attachment I use most of the time on the Dyson Supersonic, that I use to dry my daughter’s hair.

The Verdict

Dyson Airwrap is a hair multi-styler designed to create a range of looks with just one tool. It dries, curls, shapes, smooths, tames flyaways, and does everything without causing heat damage. The Airwrap works for thick, fine, curly, and coily hair types and for all hair lengths, so everyone with short or long hair can find a set that suits their needs. The interchangeable attachments make it easier to switch from older models to new ones (except for Co-anda2x) and switch up styles. With the introduction of Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x, Dyson has set high standards for other brands to keep up with. Improved ergonomics, power, and style options, along with smart features, make this tool a must-have, in my opinion, if you want to style your hair effortlessly with less damage.

The only drawback of the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler is that it is not dual-voltage, so it can only be used in the country of purchase. But even with that, Dyson Airwrap is #SunKissedBlush_Approved and is worth every penny spent on this machine. And just for the record, I bought it twice.
