BareMinerals New GEN NUDE® EYESHADOW PALETTES Review

BareMinerals is one of the pioneers when it comes to makeup brands with the wide range of foundation shades. Besides, the brand is also known for its mineral ingredients that are really good for your skin.

After their successful release of 60 shades of nude lip colors in 4 finishes (as always, with a range of complexions in mind), BareMinerals decided to take their skin-tone matching expertise to the next level, releasing a complete eye collection for four types of complexions.

I’m lucky to receive some of the products from the GEN NUDE eye collection and I’m really happy to share my review on these goodies. The Gen Nude Collection includes eye shadow pallets, mascaras, brushes, eye pencils and creamy eyeshadow + primer. In this post, I’ll share my review about the new eyeshadow pallets and will keep the rest for the upcoming posts.

NEW GEN NUDE®
EYESHADOW PALETTES

This collection consists of 4 different neutral eyeshadow pallets for every skin tone. Each pallet is designed with a specific complexion type in mind, which makes the idea of finding the right color palette for your skin tone much easier. Meanwhile, you can always mix and match shades from different pallets as well, but if you are unsure, you already have the guide for it:

Rose GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for fair to light skin tones.

Neutral GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for light to medium skin tones.

Copper GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for medium to tan skin tones.

Latte GEN NUDE® Eyeshadow Palette for dark to deep skin tones.

If you look at each pallet, you can see that each of them consists of six shades presented in metallic, satin and matte finishes. The eyeshadows are also infused with anti-age formula, particularly cucumber extract (soothes and depuffs), moisturizing borage oil (to soften), and antioxidant-rich algae (to protect the skin).

In each column of the pallet if you look from top lightest shade to top darkest you’ll see a guide for a complete eye look! This will be really helpful for beginners or people who are not so make-up savvy. Moreover, each pallet includes a booklet with step-by-step guides for three different looks.

I have received Rose and Latte eyeshadow pallets.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte-rose (1 of 17)

First Impression

I’ve swatched these eyeshadows when they just got released at Sephora and before I received them for review. I was really surprised by how packed the pigment is! You don’t really need a lot to get a shadow out of the pallet. Just a slight touch and the color is already of your fingers or your brush.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte (14 of 17)

This kind of pigment is possible due to the cold-press technology, that also saves all the nutrition. According to bareMinerals, this collection is the creamiest eyeshadows they have ever created. And indeed, they feel like butter. However, if you take too much on your brush don’t forget to tap it off – the pressed pigment especially of metallic shades can cause fallouts under your eyes.

Color and Formula

ROSE PALLET

It a little tricky for me to describe the eyeshadows in Rose pallet. Some people felt really misled because of the wrong shade interpretation at Sephora’s website where the colors are obviously more pinkish than in real life. To my eyes, the Rose pallet is more about muted rose shades with ashy undertones.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose-swatches (11 of 17)

Interestingly, but eyeshadows in the left column has slightly warmer shades compared to the right column.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose (1 of 1)

To describe the pallet more precisely, I’d say that the Rose pallet resembles me of Urban Decay Naked3 pallet. Here is a quick comparison of shades:

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose (10 of 17)

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose (8 of 17)

bareMinerals Rose Pallet swatches in white, Urban Decay Naked3 in black

When swatched, both Naked3 and Rose pallets have a similar color pay off.

When applied to the eyelid, they indeed feel smooth and the softness on my skin remained even after I took the makeup off. The pigment is rather soft and blendable which is good from one point of view since it’s so hard to ruin your eye look with these eyeshadows. For better color payoff you would need to use an eye primer underneath or wet the brush with the setting spray.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose (16 of 17)

The pigment in satin finishes seems less intense compared to mattes and metallics.

For my light-to-medium complexion with brown eyes, the Rose pallet gives more as a smokey eyes kind of look with a hint of graphite undertone. It’s more on the cooler side than on a warm side, however, the shades are still within the neutrals which makes them still workable for me. Again, even with the darker shades, it is so hard to overdo your eyes, which is especially good when you’re preparing for work in early mornings. The eyeshadows are very blendable and you can actually build up a pigment for a nighttime look.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-rose (15 of 17)

I used a primer underneath for better color pay off

LATTE PALLET

Latte pallet has more golden-amber shades with overall warm undertones.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte-swatches (12 of 17)

The left column has more yellow undertones, while the column on the right has cooler undertones.

sunkissedblush-vani (1 of 1)-6

The shade selection reminds me of Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Pallet.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte-swatches (1 of 1)-2

bareMinerals Latte Pallet swatches in white, ABH Soft Glam in black

When compared, matte eyeshadows of Soft Glam pallet seem slightly more pigmented, however the difference is barely noticeable. The rest of the eyeshadows are similar in color and pigment payoff.

Interestingly, bareMinerals highlighted that the shades in Latte have greater depth of pigment in order to match darker skin tones. This is explained by having 4 metallic shades out of 6 in a pan.

Same as with the Rose pallet, when applied to the skin the eyeshadows from Latte pallet are soft and blendable, keeping your look in a neutral range. The color selection of the Latte pallet gives my skin more of a sun-kissed look, especially when I place the golden foil shade in the middle of my upper lid.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte (1 of 1)

Since the eyeshadows are soft, I like that I’m not getting a crazy amount of glittery pigment on your lids. This kind of metallic eyeshadows will also look good on mature skin. At the same time, you can use fingers instead or spray a brush with a setting spray to get the most from the pigment.

Ingredients:

In general, the ingredient list stays true to bareMinerals, except for the added dyes which according to some reviews, can cause irritation to people with extremely sensitive eyes. Nevertheless, the eyeshadows are ophthalmologist tested and safe for contact lenses.  I didn’t get any kind of irritation after trying these eyeshadows.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte-rose (1 of 3)

The eyeshadows are paraben-free, phthalate-free, talc-free, gluten-free and fragrance-free. Here is the complete list of ingredients for both pallets.

Packaging

Each eyeshadow pallet comes in a beautiful plastic package with marble design on top and the full-size mirror that can be fixed in the desired position. The size of the pallet fits into the palm, which makes it less bulky to store and more travel-friendly. The total net weight of eyeshadows is around 6.6 gr/0.18 oz.

sunkissedblush-bareminerals-gennude-latte-rose (6 of 17)

In some of the reviews, I’ve found out that people are struggling with opening the package. It was a little hard to open first too, but here is the trick how to do it fast and without ruining your manicure or using a knife.

bareminerals-gennude-latte-gif-how-to-open

Use your thumb to press the right side of the pallet away from yourself while using the thumb on another hand (not your nail!) to lift the lid.

From another point of view, such latch protects the eyeshadows during transportation.

Bottom Line

Both of the pallets work really well with my complexion even though Rose pallet is designed for fair to light skin tone, while Latte is initially for dark to deep skin tones. This highlights the fact, that you can choose whatever color pallet you like most and since all of the shades fall under a range of neutral shades, they will still suit you. The pallet is quite small and the selection of neutral shades makes it indeed travel-friendly.

I especially like that the eyeshadows are formulated with anti-aging elements and how my skin feels moisturized after using them. Since they are so soft and blendable they are really good for days when I’m running late (which happens quite often, my husband can tell!) but still will give enough definition for my eyes.

According to bareMinerals guide, my perfect pallet would be Neutral since my complexion is light-to-medium. However, I really love the shades that I’ve received – no surprise I had Naked 3 and Soft Glam in my collection!

With this in mind, I’m having quite a hard time picking between Rose and Latte – one can help me create nice smokey eyes or add a bit of definition to my eyes while the other can spice up my brown eyes and the highlights in my hair.

The eyeshadows are available at bareMinerals.com, Sephora, Nordstrom and Ulta for $29.

KIEHL’S SINCE 1851 Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque Review

Calendula & Aloe Mask is one of my favorite products from KIEHL’S SINCE 1851. It is my skin savor, especially on the days when it is irritated by different external factors, such as after being exposed to heat and humidity (inevitable results of spending time outdoors!) or after using clarifying or peel (acids) masks.

I’ve got this mask in a small size as a part of Kiehl’s Holiday Mini Mask Sampler Set, and would probably repurchase it in full size when it’s finished.

sunkissedblush-kiehls-calendula-aloe-mask (1 of 1).jpg

Why it’s so good?

First of all, it is extremely lightweight. Secondly, it is a gel mask formulated with hand-picked calendula flower petals and aloe vera. Both of these ingredients are known for their soothing and calming properties, while aloe vera is especially good for hydrating irritated skin. The mask is suitable for all skin types. Since it’s a wash-off mask, you only need to keep it on your face for 5-10 minutes, however, you can keep it even longer – it’s is quite gentle for your skin and least likely to cause irritation. I have a sensitive skin and  I’ve never had any problems with this product.

I also like how it smells, especially the citrus notes seem very uplifting to me.

sunkissedblush-kiehls-calendula-aloe-mask (3 of 4)

Ingredients

The mask has a decently good-looking ingredient list, with lots of plant extracts and natural oils. However, we need to pay attention to the ingredients in bold.

Water, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Butylene Glycol, Ppg-26-Buteth-26, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Carbomer, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Phenoxyethanol, Limonene, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citrus Limon Peel Oil / Lemon Peel Oil, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Citral, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Tocopherol.

The ingredients in bold score 3-4 (Moderate Hazard) in EWG Hazard Level, which is still not that bad, except for the Citral which is labelled as High Hazard (scored 7). This is the reason, it’s not totally a natural product, and therefore, doesn’t have the CLEAN Sephora seal.

Application

As I said in my previous post, the right application will either make you fall in love with a product or make you loathe it from the bottom of your heart. To get enough hydration from the Calendula & Aloe mask, use a generous amount per application, enough to see it on your face. As you see in the photos, it is quite transparent with some inclusions of tiny, almost invisible, calendula flower petals.

sunkissedblush-kiehls-calendula-aloe-mask (4 of 4)

Keep it for 5 minutes and rinse it off with warm water massaging in a circular motion and pat dry with a soft towel. Since it is so gentle, you can use it up to three times per week and it is said that you can get even better results with continuous use!

Because I have so many different products to try, I’m really bad in sticking to a particular product for a complete regime ( which is quite bad), but I use this mask whenever I feel I overdid my skin and need to calm it down and restore.

Bottom Line

Overall, it’s a nice soothing mask. To make the best of it, you’d need to use a generous amount every single time, so most-likely a full-size jar of 3.4 oz/ 100 ml won’t last you long. If you are seriously concerned about the ingredients, you may want to skip on this one.

In my experience, the mask is really good in calming down the skin and works perfectly as one of the steps in your skincare routine.

You can find it at Sephora and Nordstrom for $45 or you can get a small size product in the Mini Mask Sampler Set for $39.

What is your favorite soothing mask? Let me know in the comments down below!

4 Beauty Products I Hated First But Love Now

The relationship with some beauty products may not always be a love from the first sight. Sometimes, you really need to understand the formula and find the right way of using the product before you can make your judgmental decision.

I test a lot of products on myself, and honestly, “it’s not always rainbows and butterflies“. I usually get rid of the products I don’t like right away. However, after starting this blog, I’ve become more open-minded, especially after learning about the basket/pan projects and accepting its philosophy  – understanding the product and its formula as you use the product continuously till you hit the pan. Moreover, fair return policies in my favorite stores are very supportive in discovering the products more thoroughly. With this in mind, it makes more sense to try the “failed” products again, and to my surprise and excitement, some of them are really worth giving a second and even a third chance. Here are my four recent discoveries.

‘The Original’ MakeUp Eraser

I got a sample of the MakeUp Eraser in my first Allure beauty box, and as you might have understood already, I didn’t like it. I was surprised to find it was really soft, but I didn’t see myself replacing my two-step cleaning routine with a piece of wet towel. Moreover, I found it harder to clean eye-makeup and it me took longer to finish the cleansing. After trying the MakeUp Eraser for a couple of days, it went back to a plastic it came with and was left in my drawer for a while.

A week ago, I decided to give this product a second chance and to my excitement, it came in handy removing the residues of eye makeup without putting cleansers into my eyes.

The life-changing tip about this cloth is that you need to use a warm water and continuously make it wet since it dries much faster than you think. Moreover, you should start with the “short-haired” side as it is designed to remove waterproof makeup. Yes, both of the sides are different and should be used for different purposes!

sunkissedblush-4productslove (6 of 7)sunkissedblush-4productslove (5 of 7)

The MakeUp Eraser indeed cleanses your face without any product. It is super travel-friendly, easy to wash and will last you for up to 5 years.
I’m definitely not dumping all my cleansers, but I’m going to use it more frequently than I thought I would.

By the way, you can get a sample of this one for free ( along with other 14 different samples) when you shop at Nordstrom! Check this link for more details.

Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara

I got this mascara the same week it was released and when I tried it for the first time, I remember texting my friend saying how terrible this mascara was. I had a sample size, so it kept sitting in my makeup bag for a while. A couple of months later, I decided to try the mascara one more time before I can toss it, and it felt and looked completely different.

sunkissedblush-4productslove (7 of 7)

Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara, $12-$24 (Buy Now)

What has changed in my understanding, is that in the beginning the formula was too fresh and once it dried out a little in the tube it became as it was supposed to be. It really lengthens, curls your lashes and this curl stays for the whole day! I especially like how black this mascara is and now it’s one of my favorite products.

Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment

I tried the avocado eye cream in a sample for the first time, and I didn’t like the thickness of the product. Moreover, with any eye cream, I expect the product to help me in getting rid of my dark circles. Unfortunately, this product is not designed to brighten up the under-eye area, and therefore, I didn’t consider it as a right product for me.

sunkissedblush_avocado_kielhs (3 of 4)

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, $29–$48 (Buy Now)

I was looking for an eye cream I can use under concealer and after seeing tons of positive reviews, I decided to give this product a second chance. And I’m so glad I did because it is much creamier and smoother than it was in that sample – it probably dried out there before I even had a chance to experience the real formula.

I’ve also posted about this product in a separate review. You may want to check it out here.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

I got this mask in a set with other masks from Kiehl’s during the winter sales. The set of 5 different masks was a perfect deal to try different products for a decent price.

sunkissedblush-4productslove (2 of 7)sunkissedblush-4productslove (3 of 7)

Kiehl’s ‘Rare Earth’ Deep Pore Cleansing Masque, $33 (Buy Now)

I’ve heard different opinions about the pore cleansing mask from praises to allergy reactions and breakouts. When I tried this one for the first time, I didn’t notice any difference in my pores and I was a little disappointed. As well as the other products, it kept sitting in my drawer until I decided to give this mask a second try to be loved. After trying it for the second time, I’ve realized that it really worked and now I use it regularly. It indeed cleanses my pores within 10 minutes without causing irritation to my sensitive skin.

What I think I didn’t do right the first time is probably the timing. Because I wasn’t sure about the reaction it can cause, I probably kept it for less than 10 minutes.

These are my recent re-disroveries. For sure, it’s not always the case with the products that I didn’t like from the first application. There isn’t a guarantee that all of the so-called “failed” products will actually perform better with use. However, as long as there is no serious irritation from the product, I’m willing to give it another chance.

What is the one product that you’ve changed your negative opinion about after trying it for a while? Let me know in the comments down below!

Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade: Finding The Perfect Shade

Brow products come in a variety of forms. One of the most popular creamy brow product today is Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade.

DSCF6668

First of all, it is waterproof, suitable for oily skin and can stand humidity really well. Smudge-free and, at the same time, creamy formula will help you define your brows the way you want them to be from a messy natural look to polished Instagram brows. The formula dries pretty fast and stays on all day.

Secondly, you can choose from 11 shades – no other brand on the market can offer such a shade-inclusive brow product line with natural shades in mind. They are highly-pigmented and matte.

DSCF6671

ABH Dipbrow Pomade Waterproof Brow Color ($18, Buy Now)

Nevertheless, this relatively vast range of shades can pose challenges in picking the right color. Here is the quick guide on how to find a perfect color match for your ideal brows.

sunkissedblush-abh-dipbrow-swatches
Swatches for 9 out of 11 shades

In general, we can discuss the shades from the perspective of undertones: WARM (RED) and COOL (ASHY). The right shade and undertone mostly depend on your complexion, including your hair and skin color.

To underpin my swatches with more details, here is the guide that Anastasia Beverly Hills recommends when finding your perfect match. I compiled them in this table so that it is easy to identify the right shade based on the product color, its undertone, hair and skin tone.

SHADE UNDERTONES HAIR TONE SKIN TONE
BLONDE WARM Golden Blonde to Dark Blond with Warm Tones Light to Medium
TAUPE                        (ASH BLONDE) COOL Light to Dark Blonde with Cool/Ashy Tones Light to Medium
MEDIUM BROWN (MEDIUM ASH) COOL Light to Medium Brown with Cool/Ashy Tones Light to Medium
MEDIUM BROWN (MEDIUM ASH) COOL Silver, Platinum, Gray, Pastel Shades Light to Medium
SOFT BROWN WARM Medium Brown with Warm Highlights Light to Medium
CARAMEL WARM Light Brown with Golden/Red Undertones Light to Medium
AUBURN WARM Strawberry Blond to Auburn and Burgundy Light to Medium
DARK BROWN (BRUNETTE) WARM Medium to Dark with Warm Tones Light to Deep
CHOCOLATE WARM Dark Brown with Warm Tones Light to Medium; Adds warmth to Deep Skin with Cool Tones
ASH BROWN COOL Brown to Black with Cool Tones Light to Deep
EBONY WARM Dark Brown to Black with Warm Tones Medium to Deep
GRANITE COOL Very Dark Brown to Black with Cool/Ashy Undertones Light to Deep

Here is another comprehensive diagram that matches each particular shade of the Dipbrow pomade to a different hair color.

_102321155 copy

My perfect match is Medium Brown, since I have light/ light-to-medium complexion and Medium Brown hair with ashy undertones. To avoid complete ashiness on pictures, I also finish my brows with Tinted Brow Gel in Espresso, because it has more red undertones. I’ve learnt this trick from Anastasia herself during her Master Class in Houston. By the way, there are a lot of other useful tips that you want to consider in your brow game – and you can learn them in this post!

Caudalie Masks Review

There are at least 3 reasons to love Caudalie: they have products with natural ingredients, they smell incredible and they really work. Moreover, all Caudalie products are marked with Clean at Sephora seal, which means that these products are formulated without Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban and have less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.

CAUDALIE MASK TRIO HOLIDAY SET

During the winter sales, I’ve purchased a trio mask set from Caudalie. The set features three most popular masks from the brand: Instant Detox Mask, Glycolic Mask and Hydrating Mask. The set was around $25 and the products in the set promised to cleanse, add radiance, nourish and soothe. And after trying them out, I’ve felt completely in love with this trio!

Since they deliver different benefits to your skin, I’ll guide you through each of these masks separately.

Instant Detox Mask (Buy Now in full-size)

This is my favorite mask in the kit, and one of my all-time favorite products.

sunkissedblush-caudalie-mask (5 of 9)

First of all, it’s can boast of 99.3% natural formula. Secondly, it smells incredible, as an expensive Spa treatment – thanks to the combination of lavender, parsley & chamomile inside. As you can see in the following picture, it’s a pink clay-based mask and formulated together with coffee seed extracts cleans the pores from excessive oil and dirt, while the grape pomace detoxifies and drains. The essential oils of Lavender, Cypress, Sage, and Sandalwood nourish and provide anti-bacterial properties. The mask dries in 10 minutes turning lighter in color and firmer in feel. It is easy to wash it off, and after drying my face with a towel, I can see that my skin is refreshed – thanks to papaya enzymes that brighten and energize the skin.

Indeed, after only 10 minutes you are getting tightened pores and visibly even complexion. It can be used twice per week, applied in a thin layer for 5 to 10 minutes, and with continuous use, the effect of the mask is more noticeable. I’m running low on this mask and plan to repurchase it in full-size.

 Ingredients:

Water, Bentonite, Glycerin*, Acacia Senegal Gum*, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Alcohol*, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil*, Sodium Citrate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract*, Coffea Robusta Seed Extract*, Citric Acid*, Papain*, Cupressus Sempervirens Oil*, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil*, Commiphora Myrrha Oil*, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil*, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil*, Petroselinum Crispum (Parsley) Seed Oil*, Carbomer, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Lactic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Algin, Limonene, Linalool.

Moisturizing Mask (Buy Now in full-size)

Another favorite product is this white moisturizing mask. I use it predominantly before I go to bed, especially on the nights when I’m too lazy to follow my zillion-steps skin care routine.

sunkissedblush-caudalie-mask (4 of 9)

This mask is not only ultra nourishing but also reduces redness and improves the skin barrier that protects from dehydration. The formula is infused with naturally hydrating ingredients such as Olive Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, as well as nourishing Grape Seed Oil and strengthening and soothing Vinolevure.

Even though it has a thick texture, it suits all skin types, even the sensitive skin, and you can apply a thick layer twice per week all over your face, neck and even eye contour area. Can be used as a sleeping mask, or you can remove the excess in 15 minutes massaging the skin, followed by favorite serum and moisturizer.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin*, Isononyl Isononanoate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Sorbitan Stearate*, Peg-100 Stearate*, Glyceryl Stearate*, Ceteth-20*, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Squalane*, Cetyl Alcohol*, Cetyl Palmitate*, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol*, Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Sodium Dehydroacetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Polysorbate 60*, Parfum (Fragrance), Tocopherol*, Carbomer, Sodium Phytate*, Sodium Hydroxide, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract*, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Limonene, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol.

Glycolic Peel Mask (Buy Now in full-size)

This is a very gentle glycolic acid peel mask.

sunkissedblush-caudalie-mask (3 of 9)

Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxyl acid (AHA) that chemically exfoliates the skin and reveals a softer radiant skin. Besides, the mask is infused with Viniferine®, a brightening ingredient which is 62 times more effective in brightening than Vitamin C. Similar to the Instant detox mask, it also contains papaya enzymes that help to achieve illuminated complexion. All together, these ingredients indeed bring an instant boost of radiance to your skin.

sunkissedblush-caudalie-mask (7 of 9)

Because of AHA, you need to be cautious when exposed to the sun, since acids make your skin more photo-sensitive. Just make sure you wear sunscreen if you use any product containing this active ingredient. If you are undergoing any laser treatment, make sure you stop using it at least 14 days before the treatment.

Similar to other masks in a kit, this mask can be used twice a week for 5 to 10 minutes. You’ll experience tingling after you apply it which is quite normal for all peel masks. After the timer goes off, just rinse it with water to reveal your glowing complexion.

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin*, Isononyl Isononanoate, Sorbitan Stearate*, Glyceryl Stearate Se*, Glycolic Acid, Cetyl Palmitate*, Cetearyl Alcohol*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Panthenol, Squalane*, Cetyl Alcohol*, Dimethicone, Sodium Hydroxide, Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Bisabolol*, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60*, Sodium Pca*, Caprylyl Glycol, Arginine, Palmitoyl Grapevine Shoot Extract*, Tocopherol*, Carbomer, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sodium Phytate*, Papain*, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, 1,2-Hexanediol, Algin.

*Plant origin.

My bare glowing skin after using these masks

You can mix and match these masks, or switch them daily to create a weekly regimen. On the photo, I used all three of them in three steps, starting with Instant Detox, followed my Glycolic Peel and finishing with the Moisturizing Mask.

Even though the set is no longer sold at Sephora, you still can find it at Amazon for $22.88 with prime delivery. Or you can purchase them separately at Sephora or Nordstrom in full-size which is 3 times more product than in the set.

Have you tried any of these masks? If yes, do you plan to repurchase them?Let me know in the comments down below!

Tom Ford Lumière Lip vs Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm

This season we are seeing sharp contoured full-coverage matte lipsticks being slowly replaced by lip balms and sheer lipsticks. Moreover, lip glosses are having a huge comeback, as we find new products from different brands on the market.

The glow all-over-the-place is finally touching our lips too. With the overwhelmed number of new products, we decided to review and compare two recently launched and trending lip balms –  Tom Ford Lumière Lip and Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm to see which one is  really worth the hype.

sunkissedblush-Tom-Ford-Lumière-Lip-Orgasm-Afterglow-Lip-Balm (2 of 13)

Tom Ford Lumière Lip

Tom Ford Lumière Lip is a new lip balm from their recent Soleil 2018 collection. The lip balm is only available in one shade: Lumière 01. Even though it looks orangish (or how it is described – a shade of papaya) in a bullet, it is almost translucent with a satin finish. What makes this lip balm exceptional, it reacts to your pH, creating a customized “naturally-enhanced” lip color. The lip balm is infused with hyaluronic acid for the voluminous look, different antioxidants and natural plant extracts to condition and soften your lips. The lip balm comes in full-size, in classic Tom Ford white and gold packaging. The retail price is $54 (Buy Now).

NARS ORGASM AFTERGLOW BALM

NARS’s Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm was also recently launched within NARS’s Orgasm Collection. Similar to the one from Tom Ford, it is available only in one color, that NARS calls Orgasm – peachy pink shade with golden shimmer. The balm also has a nice satin finish. Because of its translucency, it gives a pretty sheer wash of color to your lips, adding a natural flushed touch to them. However, when compared to Tom Ford’s latest lip balm, Afterglow has definitely more pigment and tiny sparkles. It is also formulated with antioxidants for lip protection and features NARS’s Monoï Hydrating Complex for smooth and supple comfort. The lip balm comes in a beautiful mirrored rose gold packaging and is also a full-size product. The retail price is $28 (Buy Now).

COMPARISON

When compared to each other on my lips, I can say that both of the balms feel the same on my lips. Tom Ford has a strong vanilla fragrance, while NARS’s lip balm has a less noticeable coconut flavor.

sunkissedblush-Tom-Ford-Lumière-Lip-Orgasm-Afterglow-Lip-Balm (5 of 13)

Lumière Lip added more peachy undertones to my lips, while NARS kept them more pinkish and slightly more radiant. Nevertheless, the difference is almost unnoticeable on the lips and it will differ from one complexion to another.  As you can see on the pictures below, both of the balms add just a wash of color to bare lips, so don’t expect tons of pigment from either of the lip balms.

From Left to Right: TF Lumière Lip, my bare lips and NARS Afterglow Orgasm

If you take a look at the swatches below, you can see how they compare to each other as well as to other similar sheer lipsticks that I have in my collection.

Tom Ford Sheer Lip Color in 15 Nina ($36, Buy Now)

sunkissedblush-Tom-Ford-Lumière-Lip-Orgasm-Afterglow-Lip-Balm (1 of 1)

I’m pretty sure that both of the lip balms will work with all complexions: Lumière Lip will pop natural undertones creating a custom lip color, while Afterglow Orgasm shade was created with an idea to be worn by everyone.

Both of the lip balms are instantly hydrating and add an amazing natural glow to my lips. Because of the dramatic difference in the price point, you may say that NARS is a better choice since you get pretty much the same result for a far better value. However, since Tom Ford creates a custom lip color, for me, this whole idea adds exceptional value to luxurious Lumière Lip. Moreover, Lumière Lip has a less-comedogenic ingredient – jojoba oil, compared to Afterglow’s coconut oil. At the same time, I can’t say that Afterglow is worse since it definitely adds more radiance and I really love this refreshing peachy pink shade. By the way, the difference in shade is more noticeable in real life though, and this is another reason why it is so hard to pick one.

As you already understood, I couldn’t pick just one lip balm so there is no better or worse product in this post. Moreover, they both are really worth the hype in each and every aspects and will perfectly complement your healthy glowing skin.

What is your favorite lip balm? Let me know in the comments down below.

Beauty Destination: What to Pack to Miami

With fluctuating airline ticket prices and extra-fees for the luggage, my main problem with packing for travel is usually answering the following question: What from my vanity cabinet will make it to the destination?

After paying $100 for over-weight baggage, obviously because of the heavy makeup bag, I’m trying to be realistic on skincare and makeup products that I would definitely need and use during the trip.

The decision-making process can be hard. As a frequent flyer, I can definitely tell that the content of your makeup bag can dramatically change depending on the type of travel, days of travel and the destination.

To save you some time and bucks, I decided to share top picks based on my experience on each and every destination that I’ve travelled. I’ll start with one of my favorite places on earth: Miami.

Miami is one of our favorite vacation destinations, my husband even considers this place as “our second home”. This sunny relaxing city is so inviting, that it’s almost our first choice when we are planning our next vacation. Because you can sunbathe, relax and party  – and do it all in one place, your makeup bag should definitely represent all these activities.

SKIN

Body Sunscreen

Since now I’m so much smarter about the sunscreens – and hope, you are too after my extensive research on this type of sun protection – I’d recommend using COOLA® Suncare Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick SPF 50. You won’t have problems with TSA to take it onboard because it’s a stick. You can also opt for a tinted one since it won’t leave white residue on your skin, which means you can use it away from the beach.

anthropologie.com

COOLA® Suncare Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick SPF 50, (26$, Buy Now)

Don’t forget to reapply it every 80 minutes and follow the instructions of the package. Make sure you apply enough product  – 1 shot glass for the body, as we know now is the right amount, since under-application substantially decreases the SPF factor.

And remember, that the best sun protection is still seeking shade and covering your body with clothing during the peak hours!

Face Sunscreen

You face is what represents you, so make sure you don’t forget about it as well. To make your life easier, take the Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30  from Drunk Elephant. Because it is tinted, You can use it while you’re at the beach and afterwards if you wish to wander in the streets during the day. It won’t make you look white and the glow that it adds to your skin will look perfect on pictures!

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 from  ($36, Buy Now)

As well as with the body sunscreen, you need to reapply this sunscreen every 2 hours and use a dollop amount of the product for the optimal protection.

Skip on mists, sprays, powders especially for your face, even if you’re being told in the store that they are mineral and safe for your skin, which they are. However, they are not safe for inhalation as they can damage the lungs.

Lip Balm with Sunscreen

Don’t forget about your lips! Burt’s Bees 100% Natural All-Weather Moisturizing Lip Balm with SPF15 is ranked by EWG as the safest options available for lips sun protection on the market today.

Burt's Bees
amazon.com

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural All-Weather SPF15 Moisturizing Lip Balm, 2 Count ($6.99, Buy Now)

Sunscreens for Kids

For kids, I’d recommend All Good SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen Lotion. Check with your airline company if this size of the cream is acceptable on board.

All-good-kids-sunscreen

NEW All Good SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen Lotion, Water Resistant, 3 oz, ($15.19, Buy Now)

For babies, FDA recommends to stay away from any type of sunscreens so make sure your babies are in the shade or you use clothing as the protection from sun exposure.

Aftersun gel

Whether you love tanning, or you try to avoid the sun, the aftersun lotion is a must in your body care routine. My favorite one is from Korres because it is made with natural greek yogurt – a milk product used for centuries to cool the skin after the sun exposure.

sephora.com

KORRES After Sun Greek Yoghurt Cooling Gel for Face and Body, ($26.00, Buy Now)

By the way, you can also apply it to your face! For a more cooling effect, put it in a fridge or an ice bucket!

If you’re travelling only with the hand luggage, you would probably need to put this cream into the travel container. Check with your airline for allowed sizes for liquid on board.

Facial Moisturizers

Your skin will be dehydrated by the sun and the ocean, so you need to replenish it with the most effective moisturizers. I’ve tried lots of different products and here is my short list:

Moisturizing Serum

Chanel Micro Serum
nordstrom.com

CHANEL HYDRA BEAUTY MICRO SÉRUM INTENSE REPLENISHING HYDRATION (1 oz, $110, Buy Now)

In my highlights on Instagram, I’ve already shared my results after using this serum. In one word, it is amazing, one of the best products I’ve ever tried so far.

Face Moisturizer, Lotion and Essence

SKII _Pitera_Welcome_Kit
nordstrom.com

SK-II Pitera Welcome Set ($110, Buy Now)

These are another products that I’ve also tried and shared in my highlights. The best part of this kit is that you get three amazing products  – an essence, a lotion and a facial cream – for quite a decent price ( compared to full-size prices and the kit’s value of $155) and they are in a perfect size for travel. Check with your airlines though, if they let you take 2.5 oz of the essence onboard before you leave the house!

Moisturizing Eye Cream

Since your relaxation and time that you spend outdoors during the vacation will probably contribute to a good sleep and less visible dark circles, skip on heavy eye creams and use the moisturizing one instead. My personal favorite is Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado from Kiehl’s. You can find the detailed review of this cream is in this blog post.

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($29.00, Buy Now)

HAIR

Hair mask

I’ve always used to be less caring about hair when I travel, however things changed. Still, if I can skip on my favorite Living Proof shampoo that I’ve written about earlier in this blog, there is nothing else found in the hotel room that can help me with the dry split ends. Moreover, since they are getting worse because of the environmental exposure, I no longer can be that neglecting. Luckily, I’ve discovered L’Oreal Ever Pure Hair Sheet Mask that I’ve written about in my previous post. It is easy to pack and you’ll get the result instantaneously.

L’oreal Ever Pure Intense Repair Hair Sheet Mask, 1 sheet mask, ($3.97, Buy Now)

Invisibobble

Tying your hair in the braids is a good idea to get effortless beachy waves. I’m always taking my Invisibobble hair ties with me. It is so much easier to wash them and bring them back in shape after using – just scroll on my highlights on my instagram!

Invisibobble Original Hair Tie – Crystal Clear, pack of 3, ($8.00, Buy Now)

Hair Brush

Taking my Mason Pearson bore bristle brush may be a good idea, but jamming it into overpacked makeup bag may be not. Instead, I’d take the travel-friendly Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Professional Detangling Brush.

asos.com

Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Professional Detangling Brush ($22, Buy Now)

MAKEUP

The best makeup for Miami is in a creamy texture that will literally melt on your skin for the most natural, sun-kissed effortless look.

Eyes

For me, Miami is associated with smudged “effortless” liner or creamy eyeshadows.

Eyeliner

My new obsession is Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner from Marc Jacobs. You can choose from a variety of shades, but the black one is a must-have. They are waterproof and soo creamy and pigmented.

MARC JACOBS BEAUTY Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner ($25.00, Buy Now)

Eyeshadows

For creamy eyeshadows, I’d go for Charlotte Tilburi Color Chameleon Color Morphing Eyeshadow Pencil. It is technically a thick pencil with extremely creamy texture and pigmented formula very similar to cream eyeshadows and yet more comfortable to use. I especially like the shades Golden Quartz.

Charlotte Tilburi Color Chameleon Color Morphing Eyeshadow Pencil, ($27, Buy Now)

If you don’t like eyeshadows in cream, you can use this small travel pallet from Smashbox. Use your fingers to get more pigment out of the product and soften the edges of your eyeshadows with a fluffy clean brush.

Smashbox-travel-double-exposure

SMASHBOX Double Exposure Travel Palette, ($24.00, Buy Now)

Mascara

I was very skeptical about Benefit’s latest BADgal BANG! mascara and I didn’t like it at all when I tried it for the first time. Believe me or not, I like it a lot right now. I don’t know what has changed, but now it’s among my favorite products! And it is quite resistant to humidity so you definitely want to take it with you to Miami!

Face

I suggest to skip on foundation and let your skin shine! For more confidence, you can use a concealer to hide small imperfections.

Concealer

If you are looking for the concealer that will give you enough confidence with your “bare” skin, try the Benefit’s Boi-ing Airbrush concealer. It will give enough coverage and will look natural on your skin. My shade is 02.

Bronzer + Blush

There is no sun-kissed blush look without a bronzer or a blush! To save more space I’d recommend Terracotta Light Powder from Guerlain. It has some blush pigment alongside to the natural bronzer shades, resulting in the most subtle refreshing luminous bronzer you can get.

Alternatively, or in addition to this, you can also consider Tom Ford’s Shade & Illuminate Glow Stick in Sunstruck with a rose-gold highlighter on one end and a coral blush on the other.

Highlighter

While it is so hard to pick just one highlighter, I’ve just discovered one from Hourglass in shade Champagne Flash and I’m absolutely in love with it! It gives such a natural subtle glow, that you can wear during the day and night. You can use it on high points of your cheekbones, nose, corner of your eyes and on your cupid’s bow – wherever you feel the necessity to add more luminosity to your beautiful skin.

Lips

Miami is a hot place, so if you want to keep your favorite Tom Ford lipstick in shape, my best advice is to skip on it. Instead, try liquid lipsticks or lip glosses. My favorite liquid lipstick is Powermatte Lip Pigment from Nars. I’ve already got one in American Woman, and I’m planning to get a red and coral-pinkish one.

Lip glosses are trending this season, and the new collection from Pat McGrath is so tempting.

Alternatively, you can also get Tinted Balm from Lanolips. Your smooth conditioned lips with thank you for this care.

Can we get a little lazy here?

Micellar water is one of the best inventions in beauty. If you like Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water, you’ll appreciate these wipes for sensitive skin. There are no TSA restrictions on wipes, so feel free to take it onboard.

Bioderma-sensibio

Makeup Brushes

Since most of the mentioned products can be applied with fingers, you would need only a brush for bronzer and a couple for eyeshadows.

Perfume

Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc is the perfect perfume for Miami. If you want something more affordable and less bulky, 10 ml eau de toilette of MAISON MARGIELA ’REPLICA’ Beach Walk is the best option for you. it has a similar to Soleil Blanc notes, in particular Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Coconut and Benzoin. This size is also acceptable by TSA.

Makeup Bag

There shouldn’t be any questions about why I decided to feature Miami White Jumbo Zip Cosmetic Bag in this blog post.

By the way, TSA prefers seeing your liquids in a transparent makeup case or plastic bag – so this case is the absolute winner.
